Has anyone switched from diltaziem to verapamil?

Has anyone switched from diltaziem to verapamil? Side effects or withdrawal I’m feeling anxious. Is it better? Does it work as quickly as diltaziem I’m on 60mg slow release 120mg morning 120mg lunch and 60mg in the evening.

Just anything even if you think it’s pointless id like to hear. Feel quite alone with my heart problems I’m 27 and I can’t seem shake the feeling of worrying and think about the future and dealing with it forever.

I have not been on Daltaziem but have taken verapamil for c 10 years with no problems .I have permanent Afib. that played up alot when it first started and made me feel quite ill. The Verapmil calmed it all down very well. I used to take 120mgX 2 daily but am now down to 80mg X 2 daily. I am quite 'aged' but nonetheless it seems to do the the trick beautifully.....so far.

I was on Verapamil 120mg once a day for about 7years - then the dose was doubled and then tripled as it stopped working for me so I'm now on 240mg slow release Diltiazam for last 4months. Everyone reacts in different ways for me I didn't have side effects from either its just that the cardiologist suggested the change. They are both calcium channel blockers and I think the accompanying leaflet in with the tablets list them as being for similar conditions & for me they both worked the same. I didn't have side effects.

If you look at the various posts on this forum you will see many of us have at times found our heart related problems quite hard to deal with but, I have found reading how others have reacted & the various "coping" methods they have suggested very very helpful.

You are certainly alone and I'm sure you will have a lot of positive feedback from others

Hello Beck.

Pretty normal to worry about heart problems - we all do. I know I have and I see it as part of the condition. Worry and heart conditions go hand in hand.

I would look at it like this. You are young blood at 27 - just out of your nappies IMO heheh. Think what the advances in medicine will be like in 10 years time ? You`ll only be in your 30`s and able to benefit. I don`t think you should fear the future - I think you should embrace it. Who says you`ll have to deal with it forever ? Time will tell - I can`t promise a cure although in that time frame I wouldn`t bet against it.

3 - 5 years will see massive changes I think.

Now Verapamil. I`m a fanboy. I did my research and it looked well promising to me. I asked my cardio to put me on it. At the moment I`m in sinus and my HR is anything between 57 - 65 at rest. Verapamil slows your rate a little so I haven`t taken it yet but if / when the afib returns the cardio has instructed my GP to prescribe it.

It sounds to be very effective IMO and from my research.

Enjoy your day.

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul

Thanks so much for your reply I’ve never thought of it like that and reading what you wrote made me feel a lot happier how did I not think like that before. Thanks so much for making light of it all for me it’s really help me reading what you wrote. Some days I feel I can face anything others I don’t quite know what road I’m on but somehow we get by and get on none of us are alone.

Take Care! :)

I switched from verapamil 129mg to diltiazem 200mg. I was Much happier on verapamil. I had no side effects other than a minor reduction in exerise tolerance.

I had lots of unwanted side effects on diltiazem!

Just out of curiosity, why are you changing?

Also 27 year old, have you not been offered an ablation?

I had an ablation 25th Jan this year I was treated for atrial tachycardia and AVRNT - types of SVT it worked for the first 7 weeks then my heart started now feeling right when I ate and drank now my heart keeps going into a “junctional rhythm” - but there not sure if could be atrial tachycardia again so I’m scheduled for another ablation 29th this month but last year we booked to take the children to Disney world in August so I want to be Able to take them which would mean having the ablation End of September so with the diltiazem I’m having breakthroughs every day so they’ve said to try verapamil if that does work then Flecainide I just want the symptoms to subside just for my holiday. I get the change in rhythm when I eat and drink so it’s really annoying and frustrating I’ve lost weight I only have one meal a day at the moment due to the symptoms being so unpleasant. Thanks for you info I’m changing over at the weekend. Did you have a side effects coming off verapamil?
