Hi everyone I have AF and also Diabetes, recently I have been waking up with very sore heels. My podiatrist says it is pressure from my mattress, and that I should keep my feet well moisturised ,any advice please. Cheers Gladys. Xxx

If you have cracked heals then a cream containing urea is very good and sorts it out in a few days. It's available from Boots.

My wife was a carer till January this year and says DERMOL cream is the very best for pressure sores. Don't let them get open for goodness sake. Boots stock it but you will have to ask for it.

Dear Bob please thank your wife for her sound advice I will get some right away, my heels are quite red, (one thing after another hey so they say, don't know whey?) Thanks also to yourself for your swift reply. Gladys. Xx.

She now tells me that Dermol is good for moisterising but PROSHIELD is the thing for pressure sores. Best not to get them in the first place. She suggests a cushion or pillow under your calves to raise your heels off the mattress. If the skin becomes broken seek medical attention ASAP as this can deteriorate very quickly.

Once more thank you both for the advice I have sent my husband Dave off to Boots post haste. I worry because us diabetic folk are told we must look after our feet. Cheers Gladys.Xxx

Hubby back from Boots has had to order the Dermol Cream, will be in tomorrow! He has also got me some moisturizing socks to wear in bed over the cream. Thanks again ........Glad&Dave = Gladaven. Xxx.

Do you keep sheets tucked in tight? l have size 12 feet and need to keep them loose?

Hi Ianc2 Thanks for your reply but I also cannot bear the feel of the bed covers on my feet. I think its because the Diabetes has caused nerve damage to my poor size 6s. I also sometimes get gout I my feet and ankles. Best of Luck Gladys. xx.

There are some supplements that may help with neuropathy - benfotiamine - which I did not find to help against neuropathy ( very limited trial 10 days )

webmd.com/diabetes/news/200...

and Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA )

webmd.com/diet/alpha-lipoic...

I take R(+)Alpha Lipoic Acid (R-ALA) which is more bio available .

So if taking ALA instead of R-ALA the dose is 300mg ALA against 150mg R-ALA , I take

this for neuropathy in my left foot which I broke over forty years ago and it has been 100% successful in controlling any discomfort.

Hello and thanks for your kind reply I will check with my GP cos I must be careful that things I take have no interactions with one another. As well as being diabetic I have AF and take Warfarin. Cheers Gladie. XX.

I am diabetic 2 and take rivaroxaban with my AF , havent found any contrary results since starting RALA last October , just took a bit of trialing until I found the right dose. I found I had to use loading doses ( 3 x 300mg ) for a few months before settling on 2 x 150mg now.
