Whilst in AF after cardioversion....

I had a cardioversion last year and since have occasional AF lasting between 1 to 5 hours only. I have always had low bpm around 50. I take Edoxaban daily. When in these short bouts of AF I need to urinate very often. Also I suddenly almost faint - but never do - then I know my bpm has returned to normal and the session is over. Does anyone else have this same experience?

The urge to urinate when in AF is common and it affects me very badly during each episode.

My last ablation was August 2017 and apart from very infrequent episodes of about 5 hours (corrected with PIP (extra dose of Flecainide each time) I have been feeling progressively better since.

I don’t feel faint and I think my BP rises because of the anxiety that AF brings to me each time.

It might be worth discussing the fainting feeling with your EP.

First of all Suhnicat I`m not doctor - this is just my personal opinion so I could be totally wrong.

A cardioversion is often used for persistent afib. It makes the heart beat in normal rhythm again. It sounds like you are having afib and your heart is converting back to sinus on it`s own. Another CV won`t be of benefit if your heart converts to back to normal left to it`s own devices after a few hours - however there are medications that might help you stay in normal rhythm and avoid afib episodes.

I would make an appointment with your GP to discuss med`s that might help your heart maintain a normal rhythm. Nothing to lose but everything to gain

I too need to urinate frequently during AF, and my arms feel very heavy when i'm in AF too...... i too get the feeling like i'm going to faint, but i don't actually faint, or at least i haven't yet, but this is stopping me from driving. I'm due an ablation 2 weeks today so i'm hoping i will feel better after that

I had 3 or 4 ‘near fainting’ episodes over the space of a year before my AF was diagnosed I A& E last year where I presented with dizziness and a high heart rate 150+. The dizziness remained for a few months until I had settled on my meds of Flecainide 50mg and Apixaban 5mg both twice daily & I now feel fine.

The previous episodes I had put down to stress or illness, I had a chest infection at the time of one episode and had been singing in a choir competition with another and had to go down on my hands and knees & crawl off the stage to avoid a full faint!! Other times I put down to the extreme heat on holiday etc etc, it never crossed my mind that I might have a heart problem.

Has your cardiologist considered a heart rhythm control medication for you?
