I am on placed as well as Elliquis and have been for 2 yrs. !? I was told I would be on placed for a yr but am still on it. I have coronary artery disease. Everytime I see a differant Dr they question why I am on 2 ? Is this ok? Is anyone else on 2??

Is the other one aspirin, clopidogrel or another antiplatelet agent which can be used alongside anticoagulants? These are used for TIAs, coronary artery disease and following stenting.

Are you on two different anti-coagulants, or 2 pills of Eliquis per day? Eliquis is usually given in two 5mg doses daily, whereas Xarelto is one 20 mg pill per day.

Can you explain what you mean by the word 'placed'.

Was a typo mistake. Met plavex!

I have not heard of both being prescribed, but I think Plavix works differently than Eliquis, so perhaps you have some condition that is best alleviated by Plavix. Did the doctor who prescribed them give you any reason for putting you on both? If not, I would definitely ask him/her why you need both of them.

I was on plavex and aspirin but had excessive rectal bleeding so switched me off aspirin and want on Elliquis. Have not had any further rectal bleed. I don't think people realise how potent aspirin is! If you read up on it Its an eyeopener!!!

I agree with you about aspirin. There is a recent study that changes everything doctors have been saying for years about taking a low dose aspirin as a preventative. However, we are not at the preventative stage. I would still rather take aspirin than Eliquis, but the EP says asprin doesn't work on the potential stroke problem posed by Afib. Since I am a compliant little soldier in this Afib war, I take the Eliquis and hope a new study comes up that shows a good reason to stop.

A small baby aspirin caused me to pass huge amt of blood rectally for 3 days til I stopped aspirin! It's a potent little pILL

When I ask my cardiologist if I can go off plavexshe keeps extending the time instead of giving me an explanation. Originally it was 6 mths due to wanting to keep stents open than she said 1 yr. Now it is 2 yrs?? The reason I question this is because other Dr's have questioned it as well when I have seen them for other issue.

Plavix is clopidogrel which is not an anticoagulant it is an anti platelet. Anti platelets and anticoagulants are often used together where a stent has been fitted so sounds normal to me. This also applies where artifical valves have been fitted.

Thanks for your input. I know plavexis a antiplatelet but other Dr's have still questioned why I am on both and everything that I have read regarding plavexsays they only keep you on it for 6mths to a yr after stents ? It has been 2 yrs and I am still on it. Just makes me wonder what the rationally is.

Many cardiologist will keep you on plavix indefinitely cause of your coronary artery disease. This is in hopes of preventing a myocardial infarction. my question would be the rationale for keeping you on eliquis. Unless you are in atrial fibrillation or have had a pulmonary embolus or deep vein phlebitis I don't see any rationale for the eliquis. You should ask your cardiologist about this.

I am sorry I should have said I have afib!! But question the extended time for placed. My brother has same issues and is only on xaralto. ? Just curious and of it's for a good reason than ok with me. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your input. Don't get many answers from my cardiologist when I ask. She is usually evasive. Hard to get definitive answers but will try again. Thanks

A/Coags are normally taken once a day however the new NAOC that I am on only lasts in the body for 12 hours therefore I have to take one in the morning and one at night.

I am on both warfarin for afib and clopidogral for ischeamic heart disease. I have to take clopidogral for life because of the severity of the disease. Originally after my heart attack back in 2014 i was put on clopidogral for 1 year then it was stopped for 18 months, unfortunately because of regular angina sometimes unstable i was put back on it for life. All the very best to you.

Thanks. So I am not the only one on the two together for indefinite time. I three a clot in the main coronary artery which caused complete blockage..I had the widow maker and should have died according to all my drs! I waited w days til I realised I didn't feel right. Took a slow shower and drive myself to the emergency rm..!! My heart kept going on a little amt of blood supply which kept me alive. The Dr said "I have heard this can happen but never seen it" He said you are so lucky to have survived!!" That was a real shocker for me. I thank God everyday...

You are not the only one on two together! I was put on clopidogrel as well as eliquis after it was suspected I had ischematic heart problems (as well as AF). But after a few tests it was discovered the heart was ok so the clopidogrel (plavex) was stopped. I was relieved as I had noticeable bruising with it, but if there had been a problem I would have been advised to carry on taking the two drugs together.
