MRI was a success!

Thank you all for your support on getting my first MRI. It was loud, no pain or discomfort. My results were good, the doctor will use it for mapping while doing my ablation in two weeks. Now comes the waiting period before my ablation which will not be easy, I am looking forward to getting it over with, hopefully with positive results. Again, I really appreciate everyone on this site, it would be difficult without all the information and support you provide.

Hi Slattery, I see that you are in the U.S., as also am I, in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I'm wondering where you are located. I don't know that any of the EPs in this area are using MRI for mapping prior to doing the ablation. Also, I think most ablations in this area are done with general anesthesia. I'm having an ablation tomorrow, Thursday, and my understanding is that first there will be a TEE, under general anesthesia, to check that there are no blood clots in the heart, and if all is okay then the ablation continues on from there. My Afib is paroxysmal, longest episode being 6 days in April, and that's what prompted me to have the ablation scheduled. I am told, though, that I could need a second ablation but I imagine that most patients are given that same warning. I was told to stop my metoprolol succinate about six days ago and took my last Eliquis this morning. Now I have to get my house, etc., in order so that I don't come back from the hospital on Friday to a disorganized mess!

Glad your MRI went well. Irene

Hi Irene,

I live in Seattle WA, Dr Wells at Swedish hospital is doing the procedure on the 25th. I will be under sedation. We have the same type of Afib symptoms , my doctor tells me I am good candidate for a successful Ablation. Please let me know how how your Ablation goes tomorrow, I wish you the very best!

All positive then.

The lead up to the ablation was a very difficult time for me. Being in persistent AF and a young family to support had all sorts of dark thoughts going around my head.

The weekend before the ablation I took my family to the coast for a mini break. It was the best thing I could have done, nice relaxed beach walks, good food and quality family time.

All the best
