Pierced ears anyone?

This is a slightly odd ask for information but I am thinking of getting my ears pierced for my 70th birthday. I take anticoagulants and have in my mind that earlobes can bleed a lot anyway so, without being neurotic about it, I’m wondering if it’s a silly thing to do. (I saw my EP today but couldn’t bring myself to ask him I’m afraid!). Any advice gratefully received. Thanks. Penny

ears are very accessible to put pressure on if there's a problem!

Go for it.... I’ve had 2 tattoos done whilst taking Apixaban.... no problem.

I have just had my 6th session of acupuncture with lots of needles on my head and nasal area also a needle in each ear and no bleeding at all when removed. Am on Apixoban and have been for three years plus. I agree with BlackCrow1 - go for it!

Enjoy all the beautiful earrings you can wear with pierced ears.

I know it’s not the same, but In the respiratory clinic they still stab my ear for a blood sample. I just press it until the bleeding stops (it’s not gushing). Enjoy your birthday.

Go for it, get some lovely earrings. In fact get two pairs to look forward to when your ears have healed.

Best wishes

Being VERY cautious, I would ask the GP if it’s OK. He might suggest you drop the anti-coagulates for 24/48 hours before the piercing (as dentists sometimes do).

I've had mine done and apart from keep using the white spirit every day to clean the area and keep twisting the temporary earring, no problem (for me anyway).

My biggest problem was having a tooth out and EP said no need to stop Apixaban and it took about a week and a half to stop bleeding. All OK now.

Now I have a problem in that I might have to have a toe amputated (bad hammer toe) or a different surgical procedure. Not looking forward to that.

Good luck with your pretty earrings, so much easier than clip on ones.

If my memory serves me right, I dont think earlobes bleed when pierced. Had mine done at 15, got bad infection which my mother cleared up with olive oil. drop of oo and turn the earrings every day. Good luck.

The more a wound bleeds, the less likely you are to get an infection.

at INR 2.2 I cut my toe when trimming my nails - but I only lost about half a teaspoonful.

Dentists might be more "professional" than piercers - and be prepared for any complications. Mine asked me what my INR was - but now I am on Equilis.

I might be 70 and traditional - but I think earings would not go with my grey beard?

What a coincidence. I am 76 and was just thinking of getting my ears pierced as I am so tired of losing my clip ons. Having been on warfarin for 21 years I always used that as an excuse. Let me know how you make out.

Hello, I found some earrings I liked yesterday and had my ears pierced this morning, not a drop of blood in sight. And no pain either. Am just waiting for them to heal, it takes about four weeks apparently, then in with the dangly drops. I’d advise you to get on and do it. Good luck Penny
