Pregabalin

I have just been prescribed the above drug for neuropathy, 50mg twice a day. Have any of you with AF taken it? I am on Apaxaban, Digoxin, Bisoprolol and Amlodipine. I am reluctant to take this but other medications haven't worked and the discomfort I am experiencing, am willing to try anything. I would appreciate any experiences you might have on taking this drug. Thank you so much.

I was on it for a couple of weeks last year for postherpetic neuralgia but it made my legs swell up with fluid and I could hardly walk so I was switched to Amitriptyline (a low dose of 10mg because it can be contradicted with heart meds).

Thank you for your reply. My GP wouldn't prescribe Amitriptyline due to my AF so gave me Methocarbamol which didn't work. I might, therefore, give it a try and see how I get on but I am not happy about it.

I have AF too. My GP and EP both said my 10mg dose was fine and when I double checked with the pharmacist he said it wasn’t an issue either but larger doses could be.

Thank you Kaz. Not an easy decision to know what to do.

All you can do is try what the doctor has recommended and see how you go.

I had been prescribed it for nerve entrapment issue but decided against it. I am loath to take anything which may cause issues with arrhythmia. I was meant to ask my EP when I saw him but I had already decided I wasn't taking it anyway as my husband had been prescribed it for sciatica and he was so ill on it he vowed never to take it again.

Perhaps ask if there is anything else suitable if you feel uncomfortable taking it. Get more advice from medics first perhaps so you feel fully informed. Best wishes.

No, I am not too happy taking it but they will not prescribe Amitriptyline as it shouldn't be taken if you have AF and then I have tried Methocarbamol which didn't work. I am seeing a vascular surgeon next Friday who might have some answers. Thank you so much for your reply.

Pregabalin, along with Gabapentin, has just been classified as a Class C drug by the UK's NHS, apparently because of misuse.

I was given Gabapentin late last year for spasticity. I thought that it had a very calming effect on my heart as I had very little AF but I did discover a downside.

I had been taking it for a month when the Neurologist said that it could cause weight gain. I had been trying to lose weight and had been on salads for a week. Unaccountably I had put on 7lbs and decided that the scales were defective.

So the Gabapentin went in the bin and the scales have been retained. Getting rid of that 7lbs has not been easy!!!!!

Thank you for your informative reply, good to know it had a calming effect on your heart. Perhaps I will give it a try for a short period and see how I get on. I don't have a weight problem but on the other hand do not wish to put on any weight. Happy Easter

Thank you for your reply. My GP wouldn't let me take Amitriptyline because of my AF.
