Head rush when standing

I have had 2 episodes of AF.I am now taking 2.5mg of Bisoprolol and Apixaban.I experience the sensation of a rush of blood up through my neck and head almost like a hormone rush. Is this likely to be a drop in blood pressure or a side effect of medication. It usually happens when I stand up but sometimes just when I turn my head.Anyone else experience this?

Hi Biscuit

Take a look at this post and see if it sounds like what you're experiencing:

Thanks Jean

I have had look at this and don't think that is what I am experiencing, but grateful for the information.

I would mention it to your GP, but don't let him give you yet another pill to cure it unless he thinks it's something temporary.

I get light headed on standing sometimes and put this down to my BP falling due to my BP medication. Your GP can measure this. Bisoprolol might be the problem in your case, but the symptom is actually due to blood rushing in the opposite direction to your description.

Beta blockers and calcium channel blockers are notorious for having this as a side effect, especially when they are first taken. Get up slowly and take care when bending over. It should get better over time, about a month or so. If not, let your GP know.

I was on 2.5 of Bisoprolol also and was getting light headed a lot. When the doctor took my blood pressure she said it was alarmingly low and halved the dose immediately. I naturally seem to have fairly low blood pressure and wasn't aware that Bisoprolol can lower it further. All seems ok since I've been taking the lower dose.

I would recommend that you make an appointment with your MD ASAP. In any event, this is a symptom that something is not quite right and the sooner you find out the better off you’ll feel. Could be the med ? Could be your rate is changing ? Don’t try and live with this, that is not the answer. Best of luck to you Biscuit1. Sarah
