I have scarring in my right atrium after 2 open heart surgeries many years ago this has caused me to have re-entrant tachycardia. I was wondering if anyone shares a similar story?

Hello there. You may find your post will get more response on healthunlocked.com/bhf as most people here have AF rather than tachycardia.

Can I just ask whether this surgery was as a result of congenital heart disease? If so, there's a support group who can help you. I have CHD, had surgery in 1968 then in 2011. All the scar tissue creates issues with the electrical pathways and leads, very regularly, to AF and many other rhythm issues. And we can be rather complicated to fix as our 'geography' tends to be a bit different!!!

Hi mandysmith

I have a friend who had an ASD repair as a child. Her AF has been getting more persistent. Can you advise what forum may be useful to her? On my pushing she went to see cardiologist again after 8 years and he has mentioned a rarely done procedure can't recall what it is. But it may be that others can share their stories.

I have 'simple' PAF so what works for me isn't the same for her.

thank you

Amanda

That might have been a Maze procedure.

Thanks for your reply.

She needs to see a CHD specialist. Normal cardiologists are useless for CHD patients. Look up thesf.org.uk/ they're really helpful and knowledgeable. They also have a list of specialist centres where she can be referred to

Thank you. That's helpful info.

Thank you for the info. Yes, it was from an ASD repair and a atrial embolectomy in 1986 &1989.

Try dipping into the Somerville foundation - they're on Facebook and have a website. In my opinion, there's very little crossover support for CHD and arrhythmia. But Somerville are lovely and may be a support. BHA on the other hand, in spite of their money making publicity, are useless!! Hope that helps 😊
