2 half shandy’s....

Well I tried it last night.... I am currently 4 wks and still in NSR after CV.

I had 2 halves of shandy..... my face got very hot and then we walked a very short distance to a restaurant and I am sure I had some ectopics..... Stayed at a hotel and didn’t sleep well for worrying that I’d ruined my NSR....

I wonder if it’s just my imagination.... did I really have the ectopics or was I worried as I’d had the 2 shandy’s??

I feel ok this morning and still in NSR....

ooh the tricks the mind can play.

Whay risk it for such little pleasure?

Well it did feel nice to socialise.... with my partner and I haven’t for so long. However the stress after did make it seem pointless!

It was mind games.

Relax and save your worry for when or if it does happen.

Had you drunk a couple of bottles of wine or half a dozen pints maybe there would be reason to be anxious.

In my experience sleeping in hotels is never as relaxing or restful as you imagine it will be.

Wait until you are back home, you will be fine.

Thanks Pete! I think it is my mind messing with me but really, the stress I cause myself!!

Stress in itself can precipitate AF.

I know it is easier said than done but if you can avoid stressing yourself it will help.

Just wanted to say that i cannot even have a sip of alcohol but I am thrown into AF within about 30 seconds. We are all different and I wont risk it, I feel too ill when in AF so its abstinence for me I'm afraid.

I know this is the case for many.

For me I gave up alcohol 3 years ago. It wasn’t a trigger for me but as my EP was putting so much work into trying to right my long standing PAF, I felt it was a small price to pay for a better quality of life.

I have now been virtually AF free for 18 months apart from 3 very short ( less than 5 hours) episodes.

Can’t obviously attribute it all to my abstinence as my EP’s work was significant and therefore made the difference but now I feel I must not risk it.

We are all different.

Normal Sinus Rhythm (when your heart is back in proper rhythm).

CV - yes, cardioversion 👍

I’m in such a pickle. They want to stop my heart then start it up again..

Last two general anaesthetics I had I reacted badly and was in ICU, the last time for over two weeks. I’m so so scared. The meds are not bringing my heart rate down below 105, and I feel so down. Need a virtual hug!! Xx

As pottypete said it's standard procedure and a quick fix . I had half a dozen or more back in the day(2006-08) all were successful but not a cure it always came back . After various concoctions of drugs that best gave little success or tended to give other problems. I had an ablation still get proxy AF lasting 4 to 8 hours if left to its own devices if I go for a walk at a fast pace it gone in less than an hour 99% of the time . Normally have 2 attacks a week so I just treat it like other people treat a headache . I find shift work especially on nights is a major contributor -fatigue but as its shifts or the highway like most private companies . I otherwise lead a normal life I do watch how many pints I drinks and try to keep below 5 as I know anything above 8 can give me AF.Also found a couple of pints of cold lager especially on a hot overseas holiday can bring my heart back to normal (one does it actually but why spoil a good thing!). It happened again just recently in September on Rhodes we were just going out for our evening meal with friends and my heart kicked off!( Always happens when you least want it to although it's normally when I go to bed!) so I suggested having a couple of swift ones at the bar it did the trick . I call it my Eureka moment!

I probably will have to go back . I haven't seen the doc since 2010 and see if there is anything new that can at least reduce the number of attacks.

When they say stop your heart and stop it that sounds like a cardioversion. If it makes you less worried take comfort in that it is a routine procedure and I have had about 20 (I have lost count).

The purpose being to restore your heart to normal rhythm.

In addition I have also had an Adenosine challenge which is when they also momentarily stop your heart with an intravenous injection whilst studying your heart’s reaction on a 12 lead ECG machine.

The purpose to investigate the nature of fast heart rate.

As you can tell I am here to tell the tale.
