Interesting Morning

I am recovering from a severe gastroenteritis episode. Very tough. Lost 6 pounds in weight in a week.. on a very bland diet.

So, this morning after I woke at 7 am and sat up in bed for a little while. Over the next hour my heart had lots of ectopics, went in and out of A Fib twice, and had tachycardia. I was able to stop the tachy by coughing but it went into a slightly strange beat with some dizziness so I checked with my Kardia and it was normal sinus with wide QRS. A few minutes later I was back to NSR. Now 1pm and occasional ectopics. Because of the diarrhoea and bland diet my INR is now 7. So no warfarin for two days.

Be careful out there if you get enteritis!!

Yes, a few years ago when I wasn't well my INR went up to 8, I think that's the highest the machines can record up to. I didn't have gastroenteritis just felt very ill and my CPR was 140, so had some type of infection. So I second checking what your INR is if you get poorly when on Warfarin. Thankfully, I have my own Coagucheck machine so can test myself.

Sorry to hear you have been going through this. Are you managing to drink plenty to replace lost fluid. Have you thought of trying some electrolyte drinks you can get it in powered form mixto replace lost electrolytes.

The bug and dehydration will have played havoc with your system, think it happens to many of us at such times. It will settle down again eventually. Rough while its happening though. Keep safe and hope you feel better very soon. Best wishes.

thank you for your kind comments and good wishes. Yes I have been using hydration tablets. In fact I was told just now that I should stop because I might have been taking too much.!

Best diet for gastro is white rice add a little salt to water.

Cherries.

Also coke, other drinks but remove all fizzy.

I had shagala or something nursing so I can sympathise with you. Which end!

Just to let you know my daughter's INR once reached over 8, this is whilst she was being tested at hospital. The clinic was totally unconcerned and said it will right itself in a few days!

Nasty! I had a stomach bug called atrocious last year. Five days of misery and hardly anything to eat till my arrhythmia nurse told me off and said I MUST eat to get the good microbiomes to chase out the bad ones. After bit of Complan I started to improve. Next morning? AF visited. Almost as if it had been on hold whilst I battled the virus. Hope you'll improve day by day.

thanks so much for your message. Every morning I seem to get an episode of AF which lasts maybe thirty minutes or so. Then ectopics and other irregular beats. Probably my Electrolytes are off balance. Anyway upwards and onwards. Take care

Different illnesses or a change in medication can alter your INR. The hospital should have been aware of this and carried out regular, (4 hourly ) checks on your INR. My GP prescribed for me a particular antibiotic without checking about interactions with GP. I took ill was taken to hospital and my INR was 24...... yes 24. They wanted to apply to put it into the Guiness Book of records. Be wary of changes, and do not expect your "busy" underworked GP to check everything

thanks. Gosh that was high. Warfarin Clinic tested INR again after two days it’s down from 7 to 31 so all good again.
