long term impact of flecanide
Ah, that’s such an important question and the answer has to be varied. I think it is a very individual thing, based on one’s health and reaction to drugs, especially anti-arrhythmics but also dependent on the type of AF one has and how quickly and to what extent it progresses.
Some members have taken it successfully for many years, others cannot tolerate it at all. I’m coming up to five years on 200mg daily and intend to keep going for as long as I can.
The link below is an interesting appraisal of Flecainide over its first 25 years - the article is a few years old but has a lot of good stuff in there.
No problems for me that I am aware of. I have been taking Flecainide for 26 years.

Impressive and hopeful for us
I believe Flecainide is regarded as fairly safe in structurally normal hearts without evidence of significant ischaemic heart disease. Proarrhythmia is a potential problem, mainly atrial flutter, which is why Flecainide is often prescribed with a rate control drug, generally a beta blocker.
Been on it for a year, low dose but has kept me largely free of AF so far !

50mg twice a day most of my Af journey, currently 100mg twice a day. It was believed at one point that it was exacerbating a pre existing atrial flutter, which presented a year after two PVI ablations, and then hung around late last year whilst waiting for another ablation.
I am the same as Finvola up to 5 years now on 200mgs/day and no issues. Just from my own experience, I would say it is important to have Lone PAF and include lifestyle changes to make sure AF episodes are completely avoided or reduced to a minimum, as AF begets AF and such a weakness could exacerbate the drug's 'ability' to cause Flutter. Good luck.
