I am 2 weeks post Ablation and I've been feeling really good so 2 days ago I started doing longer walks into my local town. 1st day was OK but last night the top inner thigh of my right leg and groin is sore as if I've pulled a muscle down the inside leg. On both days I have done 5000 steps.
It's a little swollen but not red or hot. Have I just done too much too soon? Thanks x
have a look at doing stretching exercises before you start your walks and then find a few fairly level gentle paths so that you can build up your distances slowly. Don't forget to do a few stretches at the end of the walk as well so that you warm down to resting state.
I recently watched a BBC commentator getting roped into a series of warm up exercises that lasted for an hour before they would allow him to take part in any sprinting activity at all. The exercises alone looked pretty impressive and their coaches said that that if you don't stretch and warm up before you go charging off you will either snap something like a tendon or pull a muscle. Either way it is not going to be very comfortable.
Oh! that's something I never even thought about because I'm only gentle strolling, but there is a slight hill so I'll start doing some stretches, iguess I did go from sofa to 5k steps pretty fast, not really a gradually building up type thing. thank you.
The British heart foundation website has a section dedicated to fund raising treks and part of that section is a guide to stretches and exercises to warm your muscles up before you go charging off. Makes for interesting reading. Liked the 'sofa to 5k' comment, glad to hear it put a new spring in your steps.
