Ectopics

I've been having a bad run of ectopics. Then, blessedly, this morning didn't have any. Until I ate lunch that is. They returned with a vengence. Any idea why anyone? Hell, this is confusing, this condition.

Hi Gwersey, food is often a trigger ! But as we all know, sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason. Best wishes ☘️

I am the same I have ectopics anytime but most certainly recently after eating everytime. Do you suffer from reflux. There is lots of stuff on google re heart and stomach connection. Any stomach or oesophageal inflammation can impact on the left atria according to pieces I have read on line. The Oesophagus runs so very close to the heart so I guess it all makes sense. Have look on line. I hate these vile ectopics which so often for me are accompanied by pauses and short tachy runs.

Well said !

The connection is the vagal nerve. A sort of information superhighway running from the brain to a number of organs, notably the heart and digestive system. A wide range of foods consumed may inflame this nerve or in some way cause it to become dysfunctional. Then - bingo off your go .....😮

Thanks for replying. I have gastric and reflux issues. It's because the ectopics stopped so suddenly and started back up just as suddenly that I was really puzzled. That's never happened before. Bit of gallows humour here! It almost makes me want to become anorexic if it makes the ectopics go away.

Hi. I have been through this for many years. When I was on Bisoprolol I would get them after eating. I thought and thought, putting it down to my hiatial hernia and reflux and or anxiety. It was a viscious cycle. I would fo out for food and sit there with massive ectopics. So it had to be food/ stomach right? So I tried all sorts. Started and stopped PPI's, tried anxiety tablets. Nothing really helped. That went on for 2 years! It was making my life a misery. Then the cardiologist changed me to Verapamil a Calcium channel blocker after wanting to keep upping the bisoprolol, and 2 days later totally gone. I can eat what I like when I like and no ectopics. I am currently waiting results from an mri and nuclear stress test as my echo was dodgy so will see if I stay on them? It is a debilitating condition.

I hope the results of the tests are encouraging and don't show any cause for concern.

I follow your posts with interest as we seem to have similar symptoms and anxiety issues.

All the best.

Hi thanks. My echo showed possible left ventricle disfunction but the pictures were rubbish so they sent me for mri etc. Hope it isnt as the verapamil is not suitable for this condition - so I read? However saying that, it was the cardiologist whobput me on them. TBH I dont think some of them take or have time to read your notes properly.

I am wondering if there might be a connexion between disturbance of the microbiome and attacks. Out of the six attacks of afib I have had since October 2015 four have come after assaults on the micrbiome either from antibiotics or colonoscopy preps and one after bowel surgery. Normally I have good digestion but I have noticed that particularly after colonoscopy my digestion has been a lot worse and I have more ectopics after eating my main meal. After my last colonoscopy it has taken a long time for my digestion to settle back down but I have noticed the ectopics have now reduced considerably and I am wondering if the probiotics are finally starting to make a difference.

Be sure to ask for golytely prep. It is much gentler and recommended for people who have heart arrithymia's for colonoscopy. I had to do research and request it from my doctor. Some of the preps contain artificial sweeteners that set my heart off but this one did not and was pretty easy to prep with.

I have not heard of that. I will look it up. I am not due for another colonoscopy for nearly five years now. The peculiar thing is that the afib attacks have come a week after the antibiotics or colonoscopies not at the time. I even stayed in he clinic the night of the post op one just in case.

What probiotics do you take? I'm trying to wean off PPIs. Taking Peptac liquid at the moment but am keen to try anything to replace PPIs.

I get that from wheat/gluten. Immediate reaction that lasts for days. Also if I have anything with aspartame or sucralose I will get them immediately. What did you eat? I went gluten free a few years ago and only had ectopics once during that time when I tested to see if I could have some bread. Nope, ended up with them before I left the restaurant and they lasted for 5 days after.
