Ectopics?

l keep getting ectopic beats when l stand up from sitting. They stop when l sit down again. This is a new thing for me, so bit concerned, even though l know they are harmless. I do the slow breathing which helps, but it is still happening. My HR and BP are within range. I have digestive problems and hiatus hernia, which doesn’t help. I have an appointment with cardiologist, but not until 20th November. Just wondering if anyone has any advice please. Thank you in advance.

I’ve had the very same recently. I have no idea why it happens, but it’s very disconcerting.

Thanks Autumn. I find them debilitating. Reading the links at the bottom of the page, l think it might be the digestive tract and my hiatus hernia pushing up towards the heart area. It always happens after lunch onwards which is another clue. I find them worse than the AF.

It could be due to a change in blood pressure, something you could test yourself at home. Or it could be something like a positional response from pressure on the diaphragm.

You might first try getting up VERY slowly and see if that helps, shifting your weight from one leg to the other. You could also try engaging your core muscles as you stand while breathing easily. Good luck.

Thanks Jim. I am thinking it is pressure on the diaphragm as you have said. The heart is very sensitive and territorial and doesn’t like company.😫 It’s a nuisance.

If it's the diaphragm, maybe try holding your breath as you get up at the same time tightening your core and basically suck everything in. It's basically a valsalva maneuver. I used to do this to help stave off afib/aflutter attacks when I felt them coming on.

Ok. Actually, that sounds as if it would work by keeping everything in its place. Will give it a go. Thanks for advice.
