It's 10:00 pm and I am In tachycardia. I was doing so well. I haven't had caffeine in some time and today I had a coke with lunch and ate more chocolate than I should. I am just guessing that's what brought this on. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Hi Blondies, yes me! I've eaten everything I shouldn't! Have had a few alcoholic drinks daily, scoffed Quality Street, had gluten and lactose. I'm staying with my daughter and family. My heart has been protesting at every step, but I've done my best to ignore it and it eventually calms! The fun and laughter I've had, have made it all worthwhile!

I'm hoping your heart has calmed now?

Well done Jean not letting it spoil Christmas for you. AF can't take away all those lovely memories you have made.

Thanks for sharing jean. I took flecianide and it finally calmed enough I could get some sleep. But you know, I really enjoyed the coke and chocolate:). Back on the wagon today!!

Yes, for me those two items (chocolate and cola) are worse than alcohol. I have had AF for 30 years and what happens is the less caffeine you ingest, the greater the sensitivity to it becomes. Even decaf coffee has 3% caffeine in it. Many sodas and teas also contain caffeine. Avoid all teas except herbal teas, drink decaf (on occasion) and you will have eliminated some triggers. Red wine is supposed to be bad but 1 glass never caused a problem with me. Other things like lying on left side whether on couch watching TV or sleeping another trigger. The difficulty with triggers is they are not instant, but sometimes the onset of AF isnt' until hours later causing one to question everything done and eaten for the previous 12 hours which creates a big list of potentials.

No Chocolate, caffeine or alcohol seems to help a great deal, I also sleep in a recliner now

So the pressure on your back of lying flat brings on AF then? I know when I first laid down in bed at night my heart would jump around. Sometimes going into AF soon after falling asleep (wear a fitbit, so I can see exactly when going in at night). Also found that sitting back in a chair with a hard back on it or in an office chair when my hands were over my shoulders and clasped behind my head in meetings and when talking could bring that on too. Also I found that working over my head such as wiring projects in basement, organizing upper shelves, changing light bulbs would often trigger AF that evening when I went to bed too. Lying in left side would guarantee AF that evening as well. I am pretty sure that is classic vagal AF. I just had my ablation 3-1/2 weeks ago. Just coming up on 8 days without AF which is kind of a record for the past few years. Rarely could go 4-5 days without going back into AF for usually 1-1/2 days before forcing myself back to NSR with exercise.
