That was an interesting video. To be honest, I was told by my cardiologist that in cases of a-fib, aspirin would not do the trick. Did you notice that of all the conditions mentioned in the video, a fib was not specifically one of them? Oh, how I’d love to get off of my blood thinner.

Aspirin used to be flavour of the month as an anticoagulant for AF but has since been found to be as helpful as a chocolate fireguard... warfarin and the newer anticoagulants are now the first line of defence against a stroke but who knows in my experience of working with sports science things can be turned on their heads in a matter of 24hours if someone has a lightbulb moment 😂😂😂.... in the meantime we carry on with the tried and tested anticoagulants.

I didn’t know the aspirin was ever used in a fib. I’ve “only” had mine for 8 years… I am not on Coumadin. I’m on Xarelto

Yes for vascular heart problems such as angina or where stents are fitted it is recommended but it is of little use as a stroke prophylactic in AF which is why NICE no longer recommends it. As the article states risks outweight any benefits in AF.

When I was first diagnosed with P/A/F 20 years ago, I was 54, my cardio told me to take 375mg of soluble aspirin a day because she said that she didn't want to subject me to Warfarin at a young age! I took said Aspirin for several months and then had a stroke as a result of A/F, was hospitalised for 2 weeks and apart from dragging one leg a bit and losing vocabulary and confidence I escaped the stroke fairly well and after about a year of recovery most all returned to normal, although I did have to give up my career, and I have always believe that if it hadn't been for the humble Aspirin in my blood at the time I would have not had such a good outcome.

Glad you survived the stroke, but wonder if you would have been better on warfarin? Hindsight is a great thing.... Best wishes xx

For those taking Apixaban it is not recommende to take aspirin as it increases the risk of bleeding. Use paracetamol for a pain killer
