Hello everyone, this is the first time i have posted, but have looked at previous posts and found them very useful. My problem is that i am now 4 months post abalation. I have had no af since just had the occasional flutter, however, since the abalation i have had severe generalised aches and pains which are not receding, it is really affecting my life and mood. I wonder if anyone else has had these symptoms and could offer any advise. I’m still awaiting my 4 month appointment to see the doctor who performed the procedure.
Thanking you in anticipation
Kind regards Lynne

Hi Bob thank you for your reply. Yes i have seen the GP but he doesnt seem to be interested. It’s generalised aches and pains like your getting flu but it isnt its constant and only since the abalation. I have had blood tests and originally they said that my thyroid was under active. But felt the amioderone was to blame and as it had been stopped, they rechecked the thyroid a while later and said it was now ok. I am on atorvastin and am wondering if they are responsible and have been thinking of stopping them for a short while just to see. I just wondered if anyone else had, had a similar problem as the doctor just says see how things go! But getting a little fed up of feeling so rotten. So looking into all avenues now.
I haven't had ablation, but was on 80 mg of atorvastatin which gave me similar symptoms as you describe.Reduced to 40 mg through GP and feel much better.Might be worth investigation. Best wishes
I've tried stopping it and restarting and I cannot identify any difference. Did you have a general anaethetic for your ablation? I am told that its effects last for up to 6 months, tiredness being the main problem.
Hi Patty - just to say that I had a very similar experience to you. It turned out that I had an underlying condition which took many, many months to be diagnosed and treated. Persistence - keep going back to your GP. I saw 5 consultants before I got any answers.
The trouble is that with such vague symptoms there could be so many possibilities.
I would also consider seeing a nutrionist because after considering affects from all the drugs, a nutrional decficiency is the most likely explanation and one which can be often be easily remedied.
Hello CDreamer thank you for taking the time to reply. I agree that there may be other things going on. My Gp is not very forth coming so i just thought i would try things that I could look into myself. But your right if this doesnt work i will continue to harass him...
My understanding is that any statin (eg atorvastatin) can have this effect because it blocks the body's ability to make a substance called CoQ10 which we need. However this an be bought as a supplement eg through 'Nature's Best' or a high street health food shop. So you have three options - stop the statin and let your body put itself right, stop the statin and take CoQ10 to help the body adjust back to producing it's own, or take the statin AND take CoQ10 - but in larger quantities than for the previous option. Hope this helps.
Hi Polski thank you so much for. Taking the time to reply. Strangely i have been looking up q10 and its relationship to statins. I have decided to stop the statins for a month and take q10 for that time, and see what happens then. If it works ill go back to Gp and ask for a different statin and continue taking the q10.
I'm a bit dubious about the benefits of CoQ10 for people taking statins. The Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School and the NCCIH emphasise that the findings are contradictory and there are certainly no large randomised controlled trials available. I'm always wary of sites that sell the product in question or provide links to sites that do! Having said that it sounds fairly harmless and may be worth trying although I'd be cautious with high doses as there is some evidence they can cause liver problems. It can also interfere with the action of warfarin but there are no adverse effects reported with the DOACS.
I really hope you get to the bottom of these chronic symptoms as I know how debilitating it can be physically and mentally.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Yes from the research i have done it does seem that it is not unequivocal . But the side effects of q10 do seem to be very few so I figured it is something i could try for myself before bugging my GP again!!!
