Hi...... I am so new to this world of heart problems. On Memorial Day I received my Pacemaker. Then on Labor Day I had a nine hour heart ablation which was successful. My world changed on October 13,2017 when I had a Stroke. Come to find out I had Afib,Bradycardia, and a Sick Sinus. I don’t feel like myself anymore. I was always on the go but now I can barely get out of the house. I just need to know I am not alone.

Hello Lyn welcome to the site.
You are not alone in that there are many 'AFers' here all of us in fact
You have clearly had a very rough time, I hope things improve for you soon.
Hi Lyn. Welcome to the friendly informative forum that's a lifeline to many, if not all. You have certainly had a bit more than a fair share that's for sure. You'll never walk alone again on here 😉
Thanks so much. It means a lot. I didn’t know where to turn to get advise from the people who know what it’s like.
Lyn there is lots of information here in the link which may be of help to you...

also please start a thread if there is anything you wish to ask or know about AF
Sorry Lyn, Must be old age, I posted a reply to you but in the
wrong place. Please read my replies, sorry.
Hi Lyn68
What a difficult 12 months you have had. Have you been able to get off most of your medication now? What is it that stops you getting out of the house, is it that you have not recovered from your stroke?
I couldn’t continue any of the meds. I felt like I was being poisoned. I begged the Doctor to let me stop and he agreed. I’m sure the stroke didn’t help but my lack of any energy happened after the PM and ablation. I am totally out of breath doing anything and very dizzy. My Doctor said I have to be patient. But I am excited finding this group to see if others are having the same problems. If so it will give me hope for better quality of life. This is what I desperately need.
Do you think any of your breathlessness or dizziness could be related to recurrence of your atrial fibrillation? 9 hours is a long ablation and the lining of your heart must be very inflamed. Have you had a chest X-ray?
I only ask because these symptoms are not usually common as far as I know after an ablation, if you did not have them previously.
Are you still taking taking an anticoagulant?
I should emphasise I am not a doctor, and not in any way qualified to advise you, just trying to be helpful.
Hi, Lyn so sorry to read your post, bad things happen to good people. I'll keep you in my thoughts, Shirley. P.S, were you taking an anticoagulent?
Hi Lyn welcome to the Group. You are certainly going through a rough patch right now with what has happened to you and it is early days yet, your body needs to repair and so does your state of mind. I too have had a stroke, in 2000, and then ablation in 2014 followed by a pacemaker in 2015 but the fact there was time in between helped. My life too changed overnight, I had a career job and was at the top of my profession one day and the next day nothing. I slowly recovered from the stroke and continued my journey with P/A/F and as the years passed the condition became worse and the last resort was ablation, it didn't work for me, I was so breathless and was having 'white outs' on a daily basis apparently this is prior to actually passing out. Cardio was worried as this could happen going downstairs, or across a road etc.etc., so I had my trusty pacemaker, was medicated and life goes on. My message to you is stay positive and strong, plague the life out of the medics to get you sorted out, medication right and so on so that you can continue with your life. Try and take a little daily exercise, a short walk maybe and increase it every couple of days, eat well and build your strength up, It will take time but don't give in, you can do this but you will need help from the professionals and your family, Please share with your family too, tell them how you feel and what's going on so that they can understand and support you. We are always here to give support too so you are definitely not going through this alone. Sending huggggs x
Ahhh that means the world to me. Sorry you went through so much as well. I am so thankful to have someone to talk to other than my family cause they worry so much about me. I can’t wait for the New Year cause this year has been the pits! On top of all health issues...... my Mom died. Thank you for reaching out to me and I pray you stay safe and well!
Thank you Lyn and I too lost both my father and mother within 9 months of each other, father in a road traffic accident and then mother presenting and dying from breast cancer, horrible times and of course exacerbates A/F, they were both young at 68 and 67 respectfully, so know how you feel only too well. Now, what about our beautiful grandchildren, that's our focus now xxx
Welcome to our group, we all understand, hope you get some improvement to your symptoms soon.
Hi Lyn, welcome to the forum. I hope that by reading the many stories you will find on here, you will find you are not alone and that there is always someone to talk to and share your worries. x
Look up Dr Sanjay Gupta on You Tube, he is a cardiologist who answers questions and gives very sensible advice on line. A lot of people on this site read all his information. I don’t know about your particular case but it sounds as though you should still be taking anticoagulants but I am not a Dr. The other thing is that it is a very short time after a huge trauma, the body takes time to heal and stabilize, please be patient and slowly build up your strength . It really sounds as if you could do with some help to begin with.
Hope it goes well.
Hello Lyn 68. Just have to tell you you couldn’t have come to a better site than the AF family, which they are all, I know that many times I have turned to them all and they have been wonderful , hope you will begin to feel a little better now, take care Sann xx
