Hello Jane, "normal heart rate is between 60 and 100 beats per minute. 100 is a bit on the high side! Although 47 bpm is a bit low, its not all that unusual but as its appears to be giving you some symptoms I would suggest you discuss it with your GP. If you have been prescribed a betablocker or a channel blocker, this could reduce your heart rate but you must not make any changes to your dose without first talking to your doctor....
If you are still taking Digoxin, a slow pulse could be a sign you are on too high a dose. This can become a serious problem and I think you should ring the surgery in the morning.
I came off Digoxin before my jump start and have not gone back on it. Having the dye round the heart on the 31st.
I think you mentioned taking 8 tablets a day recently, and previously you mentioned Candesartan for your blood pressure. If you tell us your present medication then perhaps we can see one that may be slowing your heart down.
Suggest you get yourself a fitbit or similar so you can record your pulse and activity levels. The fitbit interacts with your phone to produce a flow of information that you can show to your GP/cardiologist.
It will also give you an indication of how much exercise you are getting, as a recent report by Public Health England stated 'Most GPs are failing to give patients basic advice to do some exercise, despite evidence it can halve the risk of major diseases'
+1 for the FitBit. However, as I'm not medically qualified you really should seek some expert opinion on this. What I would say is that a resting heart rate of 45 isn't dangerously low, but if you were trying to move around when you measured that then it IS seriously low. I take Bisoprolol (albeit a low dose) and my resting rate can get down there when I'm asleep or have been lying still for half an hour, but as soon as I move about it rises up to the high 50's or lower 60's. I can still reach 120 quite comfortably when I'm really active. So what I'm saying is that we would need much more information to answer your question, including your medication and history. See your doctor.
Apart from a headache do you have any other symptoms such as shortness of breath at rest, chest pain or tightness, palpitations, dizziness?
The general consensus on here is seek expert medical advice and I think that is bang on. If symptoms worsen I would have a low threshold for seeking advice urgently
Hope you get well
My resting heart rate before my ablation was 52. When we attempted to control my AFIB by increasing my beta blocker dosage, m y resting heartrate dropped to about 42, though I felt fine otherwise. Well conditioned athletes will have low heart rates and I think they typically say that a low heart rate typically isn't dangerous as long as you don't have any symptoms becuse of it - though I'm not a medical expert so it would be best to check with your doctor.
