Great to see this . It has been known for years that having run out of sick people to treat, big Pharma then set out to "cure" perfectly fit people by pumping them full of drugs., Tony Blair's administration then compounded this when they increased doctor's salaries by introducing incentive payments to ensure that all patients within certain parameters were put on drugs. statins or BP meds. for example This so called Quality Outcome Framework or QOF still exists. Then because not enough drugs were being sold the goal posts were moved. For example when I was a boy your BP was expected to be 100 + your age over 90. Some years ago "they" decided that this was too high and I was expected to be around 145/90. A few years later oh that's far to high it needs to be below 135/80. Now they want 120/70! How low will we be expected to go before we all faint whenever we move and how many billions of vital NHS money will be wasted?

Don't get me wrong I am a great believer in drugs which help us. Anti arrhythmic drugs when they work are fantastic and often worth any minor side effects but I have always said that if the drugs make you feel worse than the condition then why take them? Anticoagulation of course is another matter for us and just plain common sense.

Rant over.

I enjoyed your rant Bob and totally agree with all you said. The pill and BP world's gone mad!

I was collared by the pharmacist a week or so ago and he was saying why aren't you taking statins - they're very beneficial. I said I thought they might not be that helpful and I'm going down other routes to keep myself in good nick.

My hairdresser is a First Responder and she said she went to one old lady and asked if she took any medication and was told all the pills were in the kitchen cupboard. And there they were, one unopened packet after another, going back for a year or two.

Same thing happening here (US). Age parameters, possible "at risk" people, preventive research are all changing and we all know statistics from research can be manipulated in any direction. And lets not forget 'perks for prescribers'. Laws are on everyone's books but it's not hard to fly under the radar.

Thanks for posting Dr Gupta’s video Steve. I am seriously considering coming off Apixaban tablets. I had ablation at Bristol 3 months ago and have had one episode of afl shortly after and none since. The thing is, I didn’t know I had afl until it was discovered by accident by GP. I never felt ill, just a little tiredness, which is why I saw him just to check it out. All hell was let loose and ambulance called etc, etc. I was put on bisoporal and anticoagulant and result was that I felt worse! Put on list for ablation and that done I stopped taking bisoprolol but am dithering about the apixaban now. So many people have advised me to continue but after watching Dr Gupta video I think I should stop. I am 78 and have had controlled high bp for many years. Decisions, decisions, decisions!! 😬
