Device to detect Atfib whilst asleep?

Does anybody know if there is a device which can detect fast or irregular heartbeat whilst asleep and will wake the wearer up with an alarm? In principle it should be possible to make such a thing for use with, say, an Apple Watch.

Not that I know of. There are many medical devices which can be worn or implanted to monitor heart rate but none have an alarm facility. Why would you want to be woken up any way. Most people with AF have enough trouble sleeping anyway.

I go along with Bob.......it's hard enough trying to get to sleep with AF than to purposely wake one up when an attack occurs .

Personally my AF episodes almost always come with nasty preliminaries which wake me and herald very fast ventricular rate which I try to deal with before attempting ....rarely successfully...to sleep until morning.

I have a Reveal device implanted but it doesn't set off alarm when I'm in Afib. It does however transmit information to my hospital while I'm sleeping at night. This shows when I've had episodes whilst asleep when the cardiology nurse has downloaded the information.

I use a " Crane Connect" linked to my smartphone. It was marketed as a fitness watch, measures steps and distance and workouts but also has a HR monitor. Mine is set to beep an alarm if BPM drops below 55 and goes above 120.

I would rarely get any sleep at all with that ( and husband wouldn't be too pleased !)

This sounds interesting. I’m afraid I don’t know what a Crane Connect is. Could you say a bit more about it?

I got mine from Aldi a few months ago for a tenner. The wristband/watch.

I have a watch similar to a fitbit which can be set to monitor heart rate and buzzes you when heart rate goes over whatever limit you set. Not sure if it would work while sleeping though mine has sometime buzzed me at night. That would indicate you are in fast AF.

Could you tell me what brand of watch it is? Do you need just the basic watch?

Xiaomi Mi 2 fitness bracelet, works with a smartphone app. I use it with an iPhone but I think it works better with Android. I would wait for the 3 which is coming out soon because that is supposed to offer continuous monitoring I think. Mine only cost £22. I got it to encourage myself to get fitter but didn't feel I needed anything too complicated. It does monitor your sleep, telling you how long your light and deep sleep lasted.

Thanks to everyone for the info on this.

I would have thought that if you had a tachycardic AF episode, you would no doubt wake up anyway. Mine always wakes me. My heartbeat has been know to go up to 240-250 so instant awakening.
