Constantly falling asleep

Hi there,I have had AF for a year. I've had I cardiv which failed after 6 weeks. My AF has been getting quite bad for over 6 months. I am trying to loose weight and so far lost a stone. I am swimming, walking for about 1.5 hrs and do yoga. The problem is now I am constantly exhausted. As soon as I sit on the sofa I fall asleep . The average is 2.5 hrs sometimes 4 in the middle of the day if I'm not woken up. My legs also hurt alot sometimes, particularly my thighs. I am eating a healthy balanced diet. Anyone got any ideas how to control the fatigue 😩 Does anything work for you ? I have another consultation in a month . Been waiting a year since cardiv for this, they may offer an ablation. The GPs said my drugs could be part of the issue but won't touch the dosage unless cardiologist does it. They've written 3 times since Christmas, nothing has happened.

Hi there .......... so what drugs are you on and how long have you been on them ? Your tiredness/fatigue sounds a bit like me ( although I'm at a fairly healthy weight ) and I've had no cardioversion nor ablation ............. just relying on medication and diet - and have done since the beginning in Jan 2010. Also, it has to be said .......... I don't exercise, well, not like you do anyway.

Well done for losing a stone! You're obviously determined and working hard. You could try emailing the cardiologist yourself. I did, and within a couple of weeks he changed my medication. You should explain how you are in detail so he has a full picture. If you don't have an email address for him you can ring his secretary and ask for it.

Sleep apnoea?? Maybe a sleep study.

Hi Sailblue. I found Afib made me tired even without all the cocktail of drugs some people take. The biggest plus of having the ablation is I have my energy back! But there are many reports here of medication causing or exacerbating fatigue. And there are medications that improve things. You have waited far too long for an appointment and I wonder if you’ve considered making a private appointment. You’d pay £200 - £300, have time to get all your questions answered and be able to discuss potential treatments. Choose an EP who works both privately and with NHS. I know it’s shocking that so many people are having to turn to private consultations, but if you want your life back it’s worth considering.

Have you been checked for sleep apnoea? It's known as a possible trigger for AF and also tends to make folk sleepy during the day, as they haven't slept well (sometimes not knowingly) during the night.

Have you had your thyroid function checked (its a simple blood test)? I felt like you do now and it was discovered I had an underactive thyroid. Well done with your weight loss.

What medication are you on? I had to stop taking Bisoprolol because it gave me painful aches in my legs.
