Background: I have anxiety, I was referred to a cardiologist for Tachychardia and I’m anaemic. (I take Bisoprolol 7.5mg)

I’m just really confused :( my GP tells me that my chest is clear but said that she thinks I have Pleurisy. And then two days ago I went to A&E and a nurse said that she thinks I just simply have a chest infection and asthma, yet says my chest is 100% clear too.

I’m scared :’( i get really sharp pains under both sides of my ribs, mainly my left including behind my left breastbone. And I also get pain down the centre of my chest, underneath my collarbone, my back, and sharp pains in my arms and legs. I don’t know what to do :( it’s really difficult to breathe

The pleura is the lining of the lungs that if infected or inflamed is called pleurisy and usually caused by a virus. Antiinflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen can help alleviate symptoms. If you had asthma the practitioner should have e heard wheezing and your lungs would not have sounded clear. Not sure what type of tachycardia you were diagnosed with or why you were placed on a beta blocker (bisopropal). Also the cause of the anemia should be explained. Hopefully an internal medicine specialist can sort this all out. Best of luck dealing with the medical system. Chances are the pain is not being caused by a serious codition.

Aw Blossom, I’m sorry you’re feeling so scared 😢

I’m not sure that here on the atrial fibrillation forum we’ll necessarily be best placed to help, but I really wanted to send you my sympathy and support.

I’m not medically trained, but my personal experience of pleurisy is that it does hurt like crazy! Sharp pains like you described, and trying to breathe just making it more painful. I remember having to take shallow breaths because it hurt to expand the chest to breathe. (I assume that’s what you mean when you say it’s difficult to breathe.)

I’m no expert and can’t advise, but I’d think it’s reassuring that you’ve

been checked out recently - even though the different opinions must be confusing! Personally I’d say why not phone your GP in the morning to give them an update on how you’re feeling and get their advice? (I’m assuming you had blood tests, if not, they could arrange them - for starters to make sure this isn’t linked to your anaemia.)

Take care ... and I hope you can get some sleep. Do let us know how you get on.

Jxx
