Constant AF

Hi, new to this as it only started 5 days ago. I'm on 3.75 Bisoporol and although heart rate is down to around 75/80 it is constantly irregular. Is this unusual. Please excuse my ignorance in this!

Unfortunately, yes.

Bisop will slow your HR but will not convert you to sinus rhythm

You should probably be offered a cardioversion to try and get you back in to rhythm, this may last somewhere from minutes to years before you have another AF attack.

Sometimes this will not work though.

If it does work you may be offered an ablation.

Plenty of good info on the AFA website and search in these forums

Hi Swansong :-) there are 3 types of AF ....

''AF falls into three categories, which also help to describe the progression of the disease.

Paroxysmal AF – (PAF) episodes that stop within 7 days without treatment;

Persistent AF – episodes lasting longer than 7 days, or less when treated;

Permanent or longstanding persistent AF – continuous AF which has occurred for more than one year.''

There is a mass of information on the AF website with lots of factsheets here...

heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...

So if you have Permanent AF it is not unusual to have a constant irregular heart beat .

Bisoprolol is a 'rate ' control drug it doesn't really deal with the irregularities.

Have you had tests like an echocardiogram, are you waiting to see a cardiologist.

Thanks for the info. I had an ECG when in the Hosp on Mon and many bllos tests and all was ok apart from the AF of course. Saw Cardiologist who prescribed thr Bis and 75mg of Asprin.
