Been told yesterday that the cardiologist don’t need to see me he has passed me onto the arthymia nurse instead and that I could be waiting TIL upto November. To see her can anyone in Exeter tell me what the nurses actually do please as dr podd from Exeter has said I have a arthymia disturbance we all know I have af but why pass me onto the nurse surely it’s the cardiologist I need to see

Hello Coral :-) I see an arrhythmia nurse at the clinic for my AF . I think they make it possible for the cardiologist to see more people particularly those with complicated heart conditions and follow-ups from procedures.

The nurses take all your details and review how you are getting on with your medication and pass it on to the cardiologist who will asses things and see if any changes need to be made to treatment.

I have been to the clinic twice so far and haven't seen a cardiologist just a nurse .

Hi Coral :-) no I am not in Exeter but I think arrhythmia nurses operate the same way in other parts of the country.

Hi Coral,I am from Exeter, and have only seen the arrhythmia nurse 3 months after my 2 ablations. The nurse after an ECG discusses with you how you feel, and later meets with your Dr. to decide what next.I have waited about 16 months for each ablation.

I'm in Torbay and the process that i went through was: after my first failed cardioversion (after 4 days) saw tbe AF nurse. She explained what was to happen next.. i.e. Course of meds followed by DC conversion after three months. Had monthly appointments with the AF nurse just to check all ok, then the conversion then after 6 weeks a consultation with the cardiologist. So the cardiologist is the conductor and the AF nurses is his/ her orchestra. As with life AF is simply a process. Good luck.

I think you are lucky to see somebody regularly. I have only ever seen a cardiologist because of an emergency and have never been offered appointments at a clinic of any kind. I see an asthma nurse regularly and it is lovely to be able to ask questions and discuss things in a relaxed atmosphere, also I can phone her if things aren't going well.
