Off of amiodarone for one month and seeing my EP on Monday and we are going to discuss going on a new medication to ward off my AFIB. Really need a medication that won’t cause a number of side effects as my life is just about getting back to normal after three years. Any of you AFIb followers have any good suggestions? Thank you folks

Most drugs have side effects except amiodarone which has effects! There are two other main anti arrhythmic drugs.-- flecainide and propafanone both working in similar ways. There are also a number of beta blockers and calcium channel blockers all of which slow the heart with different levels of success. It is a long search finding what works for you and we must not advise since we are not medically trained.

Wasn’t asking for medical advice just suggestions on how other people deal with different meds for AFIB. The EP I have is a top Dr in my country

Have you got your weight down to mid BMI levels, dumped Caffeine, got into a regular gentle exercise pattern, stopped the alcohol and had a diabetes sugar check along with your chloresterol levels? In short, how is your lifestyle?

Ask about Tikosyn (dofettilide). Works without side effects for me after stopped amioderone because of side effects. You need to be hospitalized for the first 3 days of therapy because of possibility of ventricular arrhythmias when starting the drug.It has kept me in NSR for about 8 most now and no problems.

Thanks ethereal my EP did mention that medication but I was unsure as to whether I could take 3 days to be hospitalized. You have me to thinking it will be worth doing further research on this medication. You gave me hope I’m always so anxious about flipping back.

Hi. Can I ask what side effects you experienced please. My husband after his 2nd cardioversion was given this drug as he went back into AFafter 5 days, they have kept him on it and he had his 3rd cardioversion this week and they are continuing with this drug. Thank you in advance

I have experianced no noticable side effects. I have been on dofetilide 8 months now and have remained in normal sinus rythym with no episodes of AFib. I am also on Eliquis and Entresto. Hopefully your husband will do as well.

After 13 years of AF, 3 ablations, numerous cardioversions and trying various pills, I discovered my wonder drug a few years ago - Flecainide.

Look up Candesartan.

Both Amiodarone and later Ramipril gave me severe side effects before I convinced my Cardiologist to “ look again” Thing is not everyone is affected by the same side effects

But Candesartan is not an AF drug . It is for Blood pressure.

Candesartan both works for controlling high blood pressure and also relaxes blood vessels and arteries to assist the heart in pumping blood

True but not anti arrhythmic at all and there are better drugs for AF.

What would you suggest BobD?

I don't "do" drug advice as I am not medically trained but if you go to AF Association and search under patient information there is a booklet/fact sheet on drugs which you may find helpful.

Right on Brianboru you are right it doe relax blood vessels and arteries. Some fellow AFIB followers claim to know it all but see you have done your homework

I take Flecainide with no side effects
