Unfortunately I prefer to sleep on my left side, but for m any of us,that sets us off, something to do with how the heart lies against your ribs I think!

So spend nights trying to get comfy and remember not to turn on left!usually lie on right side.

Always use 3 pillows too!

Hi thanks I have always slept on my left Don't know if it's because I'm left handed .I do try to stay on right now but it's not as comfy

Can only sleep on my right side as left or back will bring on AF Also have a contraption that raises the head of bed and this helps too. In fact going to bed is a major routine and have to follow all the procedures for a decent nights sleep!😕😕

Hi Vonnie :-) if I am having an episode of P-AF I lay any way I can in order to get to sleep because sleep is important to me.

I used to be scared to go to sleep when having an episode of AF fearing I might never wake up but now I know that is not likely to happen I don't bother :-)

Hi Vonnie - If I dare try to sleep on my left hand side, I'll quickly become aware of my heart thudding and it's not nice! If I do it for longer than a few minutes it will set my heart off racing in AF. I always slept on my left side in the good old days when I had a normal heart. So annoying!

An example that proves how different we all are - about a 50/50 split left and right I see.

Not uncommonly I have a different view.

If I am in AF I find relaxing on my back, listening to ambient music and deep slow breaths help.

Otherwise I go to sleep on my right side.

Sleep on my right because left seems to affect AF. Have my pillows slightly higher left side to stop me rolling over usually end up on my back though.

Hi thanks for replying I'm thinking of putting pillow under mattress to stop me rolling on my left side

Anythings worth trying. I need to keep adjusting my pillows because of neck pain as well so need them easy to get to.

Do you find it better sleeping more upright

I'm the opposite of most people ... prefer sleeping on my right but have to lie on my left to stop and prevent AF ... getting used to it now x

Hi Hilly I always sleep on left side bit wasn't sure if it was the done thing now

Hi Vonnie. How are you? I'd say whichever way is best for you. If you get AF lying on one side, try the other side. So if you prefer lying on your left and it doesn't trigger your AF then carry on. We're all different and just need to find out what's best for us. Take care ... we're off on our travels early tomorrow morning, it's utter chaos in this house! x

I read that there is an artery or blood vessel that is impacted when you lay on your left side and this could be the cause of a misbehaving heart.

As I wend my way through my chiropractic experiment, I have found sleeping in different positions can influence the least chance of irregular beats or AF. For a long while I could not sleep on my back, right or left side and had to sleep sitting up in a chair, or sometimes with lots of pillows and then in an adjustable bed I purchased. Then, farther along in the adjustment route, I could lay on my back in bed. I did purchase a new latex mattress which helped. Often, when on my back did not work, I could lay on my right side. Sometimes I had to flex my back to stop the irregular beats. If I left the irregular beats too long and did not get up, my heart would go into AF. This could happen in less than a minute. Then, recently one night, I could not get either on my back or on my right side to work, so I tried my left side and it worked fine for a couple of weeks. Then after more adjustments, on my back and on my right side worked and the left side most of the time but not always. So what I have determined is the nerves in the back and neck are an issue and as I gradually get them un-compromised, I can lay however I choose. It is definitely a lot better than it had been many times in the past 5 years. Laying on a crappy mattress is definitely a bad choice, even today.

This is probably more than you want to know. 😈 The ups and downs of this journey have not been easy and many people would not do it. One never knows if chiropractic adjustments will help, but it might be worth exploring to see if it could be of benefit to you.

I have PAF, doesnt seem to matter how I sleep. Arthritis keeps me moving from both sides to back. If Im in a fib, pretty symptomatic so sleeping is hard but I need to be sitting or lying on back with my heal elevated while my ticker is throwing it's tantrum. I cannot b too warm when sleeping.
