As you probably know Molly, we are not medically trained so we are unable to comment on medication prescribed by your doctor. Once you have been diagnosed with AF, if your CHADs score indicates that an anticoagulant (proper name for blood thinners) should be prescribed then it is normal to remain on that medication for life. This is because AF can occur at any time therefore there is always the potential the risk of stroke. There could be a number of reasons why he has asked you to continue to take the beta-blocker. If your blood pressure is high it will help to reduce it and high blood pressure is not helpful as it can cause AF. If you are unhappy with your medication then you should discuss this with your doctor. Not sure if it will help you, but I am currently in sinus rhythm and I too take an anti-coagulant and a calcium channel blocker which is an alternative form of beta-blocker. It will be interesting to hear from others on the forum......

Just because you are in SR now doesn't mean you will stay there. Sorry to say your AF isn't cured and you are likely to revisit it at anytime, and with that comes all the risks.

My EP is also very cautious about taking me off my meds. After 2 years in SR he took me off Losartan and after 6 months I had a 24 hr BP monitor to check that all was good. After 3 years I asked if I could come off Bisoprolol. So I am now reduced from 5 mg to 3.75 mg to be reviewed after 6 months with the view to going down to 2.5 mg. I will always be on Edoxaban and Bumetanide.
