Have any of you used these herbs? Sounds like they are good alternatives for meds.

These sound amazing! I would explore these if I were younger. At my age, 63, I prefer to stick with a more controlled chemical that will protect me from clots ....but I am very tempted to explore more about these herbs!! I think we have to be EXTREMELY careful with herbs when taking other medicines. Especially heart meds. If I were younger, I would consult with my regular physician AND the herbologist together. Some herbs are extremely potent! Careful!!

Thanks very much for posting this useful summary. I have consulted a herbalist as well as a Naturopath as part of 'the team' along with the medics. However the only 'alternative medicines' I am taking are an Mg compound, CoQ10 & krill oil.

It is difficult to find a good adviser in the herb field who can assess you and get the dose of herbs correct; but then when I read here about the problems with drugs prescribed by the medics, I wonder what the difference actually is.

I don't think you are reading the article correctly. These are supplements for your meds to deal with residual problems and you will still need the hard-core pharmaceuticals to control your AF.

Hi ncernaa :-) you say ''Sounds like they are good alternatives for meds.''

at the end of the article it states....

''These supplements for atrial fibrillation may help reduce your symptoms. Talk to your doctor first, as they may interfere with medication you currently use.''

....So as Mike points out the herbs mentioned are suggested to help with 'the symptoms' of AF rather than being an alternative to medication.

Unlike a simple thing like a cold, for me AF needs to be taken very seriously and that means taking medication I would prefer not to have to take in order to lower my blood pressure and to help prevent blood clots . I think with a condition like AF people are wise to take medication rather than relying on supplements.

There are NO RELIABLE herbal solutions to Afib. No matter what the internet says (and always check your sources). There is a major difference between anti-platelets and anti-coagulants. "Blood thinner" is a misnomer. Aspirin does NOT work the same way as anti-coagulants do.....and neither do the herbs. Focus on good food, losing weight if you are over weight and exercise...and taking meds. If you cannot tolerate the meds, then there are surgeries to consider.

Biggest problem is falling into the trap of thinking occasional PAF might be treated with herbs or other nutrients to avoid conventional therapy. No way.
