Cold drinks

Do other people suffer an Afib episode after a cold drink? I’ve read on here people saying that it could stop an episode. Mine usually occur at night, but after a cold drink yesterday afternoon I started up. Needless to say my PIP wasn’t in my pocket and it carried on for a few hours

Cold drinks, ice cream etc have not bothered me so far but I hear they are triggers for others.

AF is such a mongrel condition isn't it.

I can’t get the hang of it. Doing great for years, then see an EP. Nothing shows up on tests even though one trip to Resus. Stops beta blocker and puts me on Flecainide and I haven’t stopped having episodes since!

I would go back to my GP, or phone EP's secretary. I'm sure this wasn't the intended reaction. Some drugs can cause arrythmias in some people, whilst stopping them in others . . .

Flecainide made my AFIB worse.

Hi Di.....us motorhomer’s have so much in common......my last episode started after a glass of iced water following a bowl of hot soup.....coincidence, we will never know!!

Well we are away in our Motorhome

Unfortunately everything seems to be causing my heart to react at the moment! Back to the drawing board.

AF at night sounds like vagally mediated AF. The tone of the Vagus Nerve can be very relevant for some of us and therefore if you are one watch out with cold drinks. I am one of those and my last episode was triggered by gulping down half a bottle of cold ginger beer.

If I get an episode in the future I wish I knew if another half bottle would stop it or is that too risky?? I think there could be some possibilities with some people using this perverse logic.

I'v have had 2 episodes in the last 4 months both woke me up in the night and I got taken into resus. So can I ask what is vagally mediated AF. And The tone of the Vagus Nerve???

Thanks Sue

Apparently there are manoeuvres we can do for the vagal nerve. Hope someone comes along and tells us what they are.

My very first AFIB attack was initiated by an ice cold drink that I had frozen and gotten up in the middle of the night.

Hylda,

I have not noticed drinking something cold brings on my AFIB episodes, actually, I can go into Afib not knowing it. My most recent episode of Afib started and I did not put the two together but I would wake up in the middle of the night and it was like I could almost hear my heart pounding. So I would get up and go the bathroom, then go sit in my recliner for awhile [ maybe] an hour then go back to bed as things calmed down

I quite often start in the middle of the night after visiting the bathroom, then it’s in and out of bed every hour.

Hylda,

After reading many people's Health Unlocked comments with different heart issues, meds. Afib`s , Ablations, cardioversions.etc. It seems to me every one is just a little different, leaving even the best of Dr`s. in the dark finding a cure or permanent fix. I do like reading other peoples interest/ comments in the Health Unlocked / AF Association. Hopefully one day there will be a permanent fix for all
