Had 3 vodka drinks today and hours later after buzz wearing off I am feeling ectopics. I get 3-5 a minute.....my HR around 100. And positive advice?

Well only one thing springs to mind and I’ll let you guess what that might be....

Well the obvious advice is not to have any alcohol. Or perhaps see if your body can cope with you having just one drink. We've all been there and believe me you'll soon start to realise that your AF can be better without it.

Hi

I had a large glass of red wine for the first time since Xmas. An Italian meal doesn’t feel complete without it!

An hour later ectopics started they eventually they went off. I did wonder if the alcohol triggered the event. I will leave it a week, monitor my heart and try again and see what happens.

The sad truth is many people are very sensitive to alcohol and even one drink can trigger ectopics or AF.

If abstaining completely seems a completely awful idea you could try cautiously testing yourself. Some people find that different drinks affect them differently. Personally I find that being dehydrated can bring on arrhythmia, and I'm fine with alcohol as long as I drink plenty of water before, during, and afterwards.

But I've accepted that one day I might have to give up alcohol completely if it becomes obvious that it will trigger something.

Just to add- are you stil wearing your holter monitor? If so, it’ll be handy to log what you drank and how many hours before - and when you see your EP, ask him what he thinks and advises?

Hi! I've found out, the hard way, that I can no longer drink wine. It does bring about an AF episode. But, strangely enough, lager doesn't have that effect! So, I can enjoy a lager shandy with a meal. Odd.

yes don't drink, i know if i have a couple of drinks or lot of chocolate my pulse starts racing when in bed, life's not fair is it

I am unable to drink alcohol. I once had just a mouthful of Prosecco and swallowed it, within 20 seconds I went into AF. It enters the blood stream almost immediately and I guess passes quickly to the heart and triggered the AF. That was 5 years ago and I haven't had a drink since because my symptoms are awful, dreadful fatigue, breathlessness, I feel like I have the flu without the aches. I love wine but not being in AF is better.

I totally cannot drink at all, I was only very occasionally a drinker, but when I go into afib it is persistent and debilitating for me. I have had 13 cardioversions in almost 4 years. It is not even a debate for me. Any and all triggers I avoid. We are all different, but I think more people cannot drink with afib than not.

I had a few lagers a couple of months ago and woke up at 3 am with heart banging out of my chest is did missue my bisoprolol though
