Hi

I had my whole top teeth extracted and immediate dentures five days ago. Not to bad at the minute but they have obviously started to come loose as my gums change.

Anyone with dentures, when can you usually have the first soft reline? Or when can you use adhesive?

Thanks for any replies ๐Ÿ˜Š

Not sure sorry hopefully someone will help. Good luck

Why not add to your post, Paula, instead of deleting and tell us how you got on with the extractions whilst not on Xarelto as you have already posted about that here on this forum?

Are you back on Xarelto now?

What a nice thing to do ,Rellim2. Keeping a member on this forum instead of brushing her concerns aside. I have been a member for over a year but I don't use it much as so many people are harsh in their replies . I'm not so sensitive that I can't take the truth, however, I don't like being blasted at. Sorry to dump this on you, you are obviously a caring person. Pam

You are kind to say that and thank you, but actually I get a bit peeved when things are there one minute and then get deleted! But if you go to Paula's previous posts - and it is always worth keeping an eye on what has been said before - you can see there was quite a build up to the big day as she was none too sure about it all.

AwwWww thankyou ๐Ÿ˜Š

I went off Xarelto for two days before the extractions, had 12instead of 8 teeth removed. My dentist said the bleeding was what he would have expected for someone who had never been on thinners, which was good. Had stitches across the whole top gum. Still in a lot of pain and swelling. Went back on Xarelto the day after, and no problems

I think that is how some people work out their fears and surely it does no harm.

Good to hear - brave step to take. I once had a tooth crumble and what followed was the worst medical experience of my life.

I hope it all settles swiftly.

OMG! I had one tooth removed (it was very loose to begin with) and ended up in emerge twice and then a specialist. It just kept bleeding. I now need 4 back teeth removed and am very terrified. I might put myself into a hospital setting this time.

Coming off NOAC's is fine the day before, or even leave off the morning dose, when having dental surgery. The dentist NEEDS to suture the wound though in my opinion as once the local anaesthetic has worn off the areas will easily start bleeding again.

Any concerns just check with your GP or anticoag nurse.

it sounds like your dentist has done a really good job Paula!!

I didn't know the post was someone who usually posted o was trying to be helpful suggesting not right forum nothing in the post suggested otherwise.

Hi Paula, reading your posts i see you have been very concerned recently about stopping your anticoagulant whilst having your teeth surgery...

Delighted your heart remained stable throughout procedure hopefully your orthodontist will advise you regarding shrinking and adhesive ...Carol

Better to stop it than risk haemorrhage. Stopping NOAC's is considered normal practice when removing teeth.

Why would you be concerned? Many people have undiagnosed AF and they aren't all having strokes even though they aren't on any anticoagulant therapy. Its only one dose that people usually miss.

Dr.G

Fortunately l have an excellent Orthodontist at the Dental Academy in Daresbury Cheshire who has excellent communication skills and experience...Sadly for Paula she wasn't that fortunate otherwise she would not have been so distressed ...

Happily she has been reasured now.

Sorry Paula mine are metal backed with clips on two remaining teeth so I can't offer any advice re second generation. It did take me some weeks (liar -months) to get used to them and I spent quite a lot of time looking like Gappy McGap. I did have to wait about three months after the extractions for everything to shrink back before they fitted me up.

Hi Paula,

Speaking as a dentist with AF i feel especially able to answer this question :)

You can use fixative anytime really, so after 5 days you should be absolutely fine. The gum tissue will continue to healing for up to 6 months although most of the healing takes place within 3 months, so relining is fine then.

The dentures are going to get VERY loose BUT you will get more skilled at using them. They are NOT teeth, and not a replacement for them so don't expect too much. its like eating with plastic cutlery for the rest of your life.

Try Seabond ( amazon.co.uk/Seabond-Dentur... as the denture gets more loose, it pads out where the gums have shrunk back (where the teeth have been removed) a bit better than 'normal' fixative.

Int he future you may need to consider implants BUT that all depends on why you lost your teeth.

Hope this helps.

I had my teeth out and put dentures in same time and you might find out when your mouth heals you with be able to hold them up with out anything I did and that was 40 odd years ago and only had that set tightened once but not for years after I have just got some more 2 years ago and only because they was worn in lots off places but I can eat everything with them so hope this helps

Sorry I didn't realise you were regular here I was trying to be helpful. As post just mentioned teeth extractions. I consider myself admonished.
