I called Urgent Care right after I took my second 10 mg dose of Warfrin last night Friday.I took them about 15 minutes apart. Yes a 62 year old man can forget....LOL.

The on call Doctor said there wasn’t anything that could be done. I told him I take it for my replacement of my Aortic Heart ❤️ Valve. He said not to take my to skip saturday nights dose. Then resume my normal 10mg’s on Sunday.

He did add!!! “Don’ cut yourself”

Food rich in vitamin k will counteract some of the effects but the problem is knowing how much to eat as it might reduce your INR too much. The dose won’t have its full effect yet so the doctors advice re missing a dose seems sensible. Ideally you’d self test to keep an eye on things but failing that I would ask your clinic to test you to check your INR soon

Interesting, that you were told that it wasn't a big deal for you to have taken a double dose of Warfarin. Thank you for letting us know.

The trouble is we take our pills as a matter of habit and it's not always easy to recall whether we did actually take them or just thought about doing so! Sigh, the memory is a bit sluggish as we get older!!!

I always keep my warfarin tablets in a 7 day pill box and take them mid breakfast, though perhaps I should really keep all my pills in it, or it may be a better idea to buy a second one.

Come on Billy, time to buy a pill box so that this doesn't happen again.

Best wishes

Jean

It is difficult to remember sometimes. These things always happen on bank holiday weekends too! I have 2 alarms set on my phone but don't always hear them!! They just serve as a reminder. Fine usually unless routine changes. Husband has a pill box but still forgets the lot sometimes!

When taking warfarin I always took it as soon as I started cooking the dinner. If I was out and phoned my wife to put it on I took them then. Used to get some funny looks from people on the train.

2 x 10mg ...that's quite a dose! Still, it's reassuring for us all to know it's obviously not life threatening!!

I have set my phone alarm for 6pm, and its also when Big Ben chimes on Radio 4, so that's a good reminder.....but we can all easily be distracted, so I put my dose on a piece of a card ready, and then when taken, the card goes back in the meds tray.....works for me (mostly!!!).

Pill boxes are the answer, I swear by them for keeping my medication in check.
