Weakness normal??

Why do we feel weak even when we haven't had an Afib episode in months? Is it because heart is not working normally?

How do you know you haven’t been in afib in a month?

I'm not sure. I guess because I haven't had an episode of erratic heart beats. Just an occasional skipped beat or flutter.

I don't have a compatible phone. But I am scheduled to have my first ablation. Hopefully it will resolve a lot of my current health issues.

Please understand that ablation is not an instant fix. You will still need quite a few months recovery before you start to feel better. Three to six months is average although you may notice the lack of AF beneficial right away.

This was my first thought. In the beginning of my AF journey(2011-at that time was 67)I would go in and out of AF with no symptoms. Sometimes I did have mild sx but I guess I was in denial and would tell myself they were nothing. What a long time ago. Now in permanant afib, well managed, with a pacemaker, an ablation, and a Watchman device in place. I'm rolling along fine. If I could begin again I would push for a Holter monitor early on to get a better picture of what my heart was really doing. (And not just for 24 hours; I would want a week's worth of monitoring if I could get the doc to order it.) Take care. irina1975

Could also be meds making you feel weak.

True. Once the weather became cold, I couldn't go out for morning walks.

Hi ncernae. Are you taking any medications? If so, many meds can make us tired. If you're interested, search your meds online and read about their side effects. Many meds have mild side effects and the benefit of taking them outweighs the tiredness, etc. But it's comforting to know why you are experiencing sx. Also, as Bob said, healing from any surgery is not a quick process. Often patients think because their outward signs are healed (incision/sutures out, etc-if applicable), it takes quite a bit longer for our internal selves to heal and regain energy. I would also mention the tiredness and other sx to my doc on next visit- especially if they worsen or you are having a hard time tolerating them. Sometimes a change to a similar med can make a difference. But this will be something for you and your doc to decide together. Take care. irina1975
