Hi I have AF but I also suffer from a heart rate that goes from 33 to 90 daily it does this in and out of AF my question is what do most people think is more important to sort out. I don't suffer from silly high heart rate when in AF nore do I stay affected for long periods I go in and out quickly

My HR has very recently started to do similar silly things and I am not an expert but the extreme variation worries me far more than a straightforward Episode of AF. If it is diagnosed as Bradycardia-Tachycardia - a possible candidate for pacemaker is the offered solution. It has helped my husband who had pacemaker inserted some 4 years ago,

I am going for pace and ablate so will be pacemaker dependent.

I agree with CDreamer. Sick sinus syndrome is a possibility. Have you had any dizzy dos or blackouts? Your GP can arrange a Holter monitor.

Hello Dave, 3 years ago I started to get a blackouts, it started months before this by having feelings of going to and fighting these feelings, but it was getting worse and worse an electrical fault whereby the signal to the hart to pump blood from the lower left ventricle to the brain sometimes fails...

I had a great but sometimes stressfull job whereby as a master on oceangoing vessels you cannot really pass out or have blackouts, I had annual medicals, was on bloodpressure medication, but realized that during stressfull situations I sometimes felt having to fight passing out which from once a month or 2 months returned at lesser intervals to almost daily.

So

During my leave period at home not stressfull, I had my first actual blackout and not until I actually went to A&E after the blackout and saw a different cardiologist who did his own tests as also my heartrate went from 30-170 something they found out as one of the results of the 5 day ECG which monitoring apparently also showed that my heart stopped on several occasions for 5-7 sec and restarted again.

As they were worried of a total block till my surprise they advised me I needed a Pacemaker which Was a shock as I never expected this.

Not very long afterwards I had a single wire Pacemaker put in the Left Ventricle which kicks in when my heartrate falls below 60 bts/min...

I never looked back, no more dizzy spells which went on for hours etc etc and all associated problems with it.. and for my fast heartrate I take bisoprolol tablets daily, so I can relate to your problems and what you must be going through...

It was a painless procedure and am very Happy its done as it probably saved my life.

I hope that you will be sorted soon and will be taking care off. !! Dont let it go. wishing you all the best /...Henri.

Hi DaveBr

The doctor told me when I was in hospital, after collapsing three times, that your heart can withstand going up to 300 bpm, but only for a short time. He said this can happen when making love, a little embarrassing. Your heart rate going to 33bpm is more concerning, although again only momentarily is not too bad. The heart rate should generally be from 60 to 90bpm. Just go with the flow with your cardiologist, they are the experts, we are not. Worrying about it will make it worse.

Good luck. Flyer.

Hi Flyer it isn't the high rate that worries me it is the low rate. The problem can last for an hour or more

Hello again DaveBr

As I said a momentary low bpm is not too bad but if you are at 33bpm for a long period then you are right to be concerned. We are not experts on the heart, the cardiologist is. Make sure you log all the times when your heart rate is low and let him know. If you feel really unwell GO TO THE DOCTORS OR HOSPITAL. We don't know everything.

Best regards Flyer.
