The Difference between Ramipril and Bisoprolol

I am suffering from AF last 3 years, I am asymptomatic, I am prescribed Ramipril and Bisoprolol and also take Xarelto the anticoagulant. Can anyone let me know if either Ramipril or Bisoprolol affects the heart rate (pulse), or do both have nought to do with that area... Reason I ask is I noted that after some days while on the high seas for various reasons did not take either tablet (for 7 days) except Xarelto , I noted my blood pressure each day was as good as it is when taking the tablets during those 7 days, although heart rate was just under 100 each day. I therefore am wondering which area each tablet moderates .i.e. rhythm , heart rate, etc,- as it seems to me my main concern is the heart rate rather than blood pressure. I am booked to see my GP and will ask this question, but maybe I can get some information from those reading this who are familiar with these drugs what exactly each is tackling. I wish to offer those who respond my thanks in advance.

Both drugs affect rate rather than rhythm.

There is an excellent fact sheet on drugs available from AF Associagion main website.

Is Ramipril used for AF, being an ace inhibitor?

Consul , I took Ramipril for BP, Xarelto for anti coagulant and swopped Bisopralol for Digoxin , that was for AF. Hope that helps.

Hi consul,

My understanding is that bisoprolol is the tablet that reduces the heart rate. (It can also have the effect of reducing blood pressure.)

I was on ramipril for years to reduce my blood pressure, and then the cardiologist added in bisoprolol (beta blocker) to bring my heart rate down as well, in the hopes of avoiding AF events.

Hope you get good support and advice from your doctor :)

My understanding is that Ramipril deals with blood pressure and Bisoprolol deals with heart rate.

I am on both BUT I was put on Ramipril ( for blood pressure) 3 to 4 years before AF struck ( Jan 2010) at which time I was put on Bisoprolol.

I am on the same three drugs plus Diltiazem. My understanding is that Bisoprolol is for heart rate and Ramipril if for blood pressure. I have permanent AF and Heart Failure the Ramipril is more for the HF which seems to make my blood pressure a bit erratic. A few months ago my diastolic rate was too high so the Ramipril was increased. I have also been told on several occasions that Ramipril strengthens the heart.

Ramipril - Blood pressure

Bisoprolol - rate control (with some blood pressure reduction)

Be careful, I foolishly stopped taking Ramipril and thought my BP was good, it soon went through the roof (Bounce back)

You are right there Mikee, I take my Ramipril first thing in morning. Occasionally, when my routine is shattered, I forget my dose. Boy does the BP jump through the roof 🤔

I was told bisoprolol to bring down my high heat rate so my heart doesn't get tired and go into irregular beats.

For John6 - what is the suggested heart rate for you at your age according to the chart at the URL: topendsports.com/testing/he...

Your rate does appear low unless you are a young athletic!
