It happened around nine pm. My tummy started feeling gurgling as tho l had to go to the bathroom. Then my heart started to beat off beat ... not afib per se but off rhythm ... l told my husband l think afib is starting... he said breath deeply and calm down. I did and it stopped. It lasted maybe two minutes. Then, I went to the bathroom and everything felt more settled. I have only had two real afib attacks in one year. I went to emergency each time and it stopped after four hours each time on some sort of intravenous drip. Was my feeling last evening afib do you think? I was diagnosed with PAF. Thank you sweeties... ❤️ and 😘. Jan Maree
I had a weird feeling last evening. - Atrial Fibrillati...
I had a weird feeling last evening.
sounds like the vagus nerve was irritated and you stopped it going into A Fib by deep breathing !!
Hi Janith,
I agree with rosyG. Absolutely!
What time did you finish your evening meal. Suggest you read up on the Vagal nerve, a nerve in the central nervous system which governs the function of a number of organs, notably the heart and digestive system.
Certainly, foods and drinks in many people can cause the Vagal nerve to be a bit dysfunctional. I have recently gone back into AF after nearly 3 years of being AF free. In the past food has been s trigger, this time it was sleeping on my left side. The first and only time I have had that experience, but even so I still think it was the Vagal nerve at work. On this occasion my AF lasted around 4 hours and I calmed things by breathing through my diaphragm

Thank you so much.
Hello John
You are correct, sleeping on your left side can trigger an AF episode, as it stimulates the vagal nerve.
Kind regards

Thank you!
Oh ... we dined a little later last evening. I just remembered. We normally have our evening meal at precisely 5 pm. Last evening l was running one hour late. Perhaps a contributor. I fear that the artichoke was the culprit.
Thank you again!
Oh, thank you John so very much ... l had baked chicken, brown rice with broccoli! I am very thin so l don’t eat very much ... no capacity ... oh, l also had an artichoke. That was too much food l fear. No dessert. However, l did have one very weak gin and soda before din din. I am afraid of the quinine in tonic. You are right about your diagnosis. I am going to be very careful about overly full tum. I’m happy that you have cut your afib so significantly! Keep up the good work and so will I! 😘
I would say a definite yes to your post Janith This is how most of my attacks begin and like the others have said I have learnt to control them with the breathing exercises Not the ones that start in my sleep though and once the AF really grits a hold it can be anything from 6 to 24 hours before it runs it's course! Hate it! Hang in there and chin up!😘
Thank you for reading my post and responding. I so appreciate it. 😚
