I have bought Cammomile teabags mainly for the health benefits & have read it might help my IBS, but have just read I cannot use them as I am on blood thinners. Does anyone know if this is so. Thank you

Speak to your pharmacist regarding ANTICOAGULATION contra indications.

I hope that's not correct as i am on Warfarin. I often have Camomile tea. I have been told not to have green tea.

I have just googled it and it says not to take. I will check with the pharmacist

On pradaxa and was on Warfarin I only drink green tea and have pre and since AF

I had rather jumped to the assumption that we might be talking about Warfarin and vitamin K here, but it is not the case. Camomile tea evidently is a 'blood thinner' and apparently should not be taken with any anticoagulant.

It's news to me, a regular downer of cups of Night Time / Sleep Easy tea. I don't much care for straight camomile, but it is included in most herbal teas that encourage sleepiness, along with valerian and things that have a pleasant flavour.

I don't recall this having been mentioned before on the forum and a cursory search doesn't bring it up either, so many thanks aberdovey for mentioning it. I'll run it past my pharmacist and may well not be buying more teas for insomniacs!

My Pharmacist said as i am already taking it keep on it. I will ask the INR nurse next time i see her.

That sounds like good news!

I wonder how much blood thinning capability there is in the small amount of camomile one gets in a single tea bag?

I also often drink chamomile tea at night time. I have had a quick look and it not that clear. It appears it is a no no when taking warafin but not too clear if you are on a noac. Will have to investigate further.

My understanding is that you can eat anything you like with anticoagulants as long as you know whether that food or herb interacts or might interact with your a/c.

And then you must eat that food in the same quantity every day. As an example, it's ok to eat a plateful of Vit K rich greens as long as you eat the same every day.

I shall carry on drinking my rooibos tea with my warfarin

in reply to

Rooibos is naturally caffeine free so gets the thumbs up big time. I like Red Chai as an occasional treat, but with the rooibos you get ginger, cloves, pepper and other things that may be dubious, though no camomile.

Well I drink about 5 cups of day and I have given up so many pleasures - a good cup of camomile tea along with chocolate - are staying! Life wouldn’t be worth living without!

I have been drinking a double Camomile tea every evening and taking 9mg of Warfarin daily for years with no ill effects. So I wouldn't worry too much.

I drink camomile tea most days. Sometimes when I run out of it I don’t have it foe weeks. My INR stays the same.

I have been on Warfarin nearly 4 months now, and my INR appears to be in target range with 4.7mg of Warfarin / day. I have only ever drunk Rooibos (redbush), Green Tea and Cammomile (+ 1 cup of Tetley first thing in a.m.) in that time. Is the 'issue' to do with Vit.K or is there some other side-effect?

I was in a restaurant, and had not tried Cammomile tea before. My companion said she drank it every day. On this recommendation I ordered some. One sip and it was vile! I turned accusingly to my companion who said something like "Yes it is foul, I drink it for health reasons ...". -Thanks!

I think it is an acquired taste, I hated it at first but now really like it.

I've been on Apixaban for about 5 years and have been drinking Chamomile tea for years and I don't seem to have suffered any adverse effects.
