Hi Everyone....thought I would let you know what's been happening. My cardiologist has recommended an ablation for me and the appt. with the EP is for May 1st...I see my cardiologist on Friday 9th Feb. I have, unbeknownst to him cut all my medications down except the anticoagulant of course and have stopped the Digoxin 0.25 mg altogether and am now only taking 5 mg Bisoprolol daily rather than the 10 mg he had me taking....I haven't had any problems now since I started this in November and it has been since last Sept. that I had any real issues....I am going to let the cardiologist know that I do not want another ablation and that I am feeling so much better now that I would like to keep on this way....my gp suggested if the afib does rear up to take another 5 mg Bisoprolol and could also take a digoxin....sort of PIP thing....I am feeling so much better these days and thought I would let you all know....I think sometimes we could possibly be overmedicated and that can cause issues for us too.

I agree with your way of thinking re Digoxin, it made me feel dreadful when I took it so I understand exactly where you are coming from. The appointment with your Cardiologist is only a day away and I would suggest you are honest and open with him about how you are feeling.
After having three ablations, I would suggest that it's never wise to rush into having them if it is not affecting your life greatly. I really wish now that I had paid more attention to eating a healthier and additive free diet. Each ablation forms scarring in your heart and I was once told by a cardiologist that that scarring had probably caused my heart to become a bit stiff in it's workings. Heart research is progressing all the time and who knows what the AF cure that's up ahead will be.
When I was first diagnosed with AF, about 13 years ago (had probably had it for years before undiagnosed) I didn't understand the importance of certain drugs and would take myself off of them whenever I felt they weren't helping much, even warfarin! I'm still here to tell the tale, but to be honest knowing what I know now, taking myself off of warfarin was a really silly thing to do.
I think we must all judge for ourselves what pills we're happy to take, but be warned I certainly have not always been right with my decisions to stop them without professional advice. I think now if only I'd stuck with Flecainide all those years ago I may not have gone through all the dreadful and difficult AF problems and admittances to hospital that I've had.
Due to a big snowstorm coming tomorrow I had to cancel with cardiologist but explained to his assistant that I was feeling so well that a later appointment when the weather was better would be great and she agreed. My general practitioner knows of the meds I am now taking and is in agreement with my decision so I feel blessed to be feeling so well. Thank you for your reply.
If you feel ok then give it some time. I have been too cowardly to have an ablation and stuck with lots of meds. Even if I had an ablation my cardiologist said I would still be on statins warfarin amlodapine for bp so I would not take 2 other tablets bisoprolol and flecainide. So I am going to stay with the status quo. I get tired can't run a mile but do 8000 or more steps a day lost weight eat very healthy never smoked and now do not drink. Get a few ectopics now and again but my mindfulness and acceptance that I have this issue has helped. Self help is key. Good luck and very best wishes. C
