Neither drug is anti arrhythmic if that is what you mean. Bisoprolol is a rate control drug and diazapam is for anxiety. .

Bisoprolol is a beta blocker used to slow the heart in atrial fibrillation (AF). Diazepam is for anxiety. Reduced anxiety will commonly slow a fast heart rate due to anxiety too, Diazepam is habit forming and usually only intended for short courses of treatment.

Hi Donber65 It is true the diazepam is an anti-anxiety med. And can be addicting. It is in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. I don't believe, for myself, in taking meds that I don't need. Having said that I have had a diagnosed anxiety disorder all my life. In the last few years since living alone my EP has given me a small dose of alprazolam daily as needed. It is not for my a-fib but to lower my anxiety when my mind runs away with itself. I take it sparingly and often break my pill in half. It's helped me not obsess over afib sx when they flare up. Worth your partner asking his doctor if they might help in the short term. Just a suggestion. For me anxiety makes everything so much harder to deal with and when I am able to lessen my anxiety I handle my afib much better. Take care. irina1975
