I I would like to reduce 2.5mgs of Bisoprolol to 1.25mgs any advice welcome. Last time I tried to reduce I got extreme chills or painful hot flashes in my limbs along with increased anxiety. Any advice very welcome please

firstly, it is not wise to change the dose of your medication without consulting your GP, consultant or Arrythmia nurse. Assuming you have their approval, it always better to reduce the dose over time but as there is (as far as I know) no intermediary dose, this might be difficult. However, most people tell us that they generally feel better on a reduced dose of Bisoprolol, but if you feel better on 2.5, why not just stay on it?

I did drop from 2.5 to 1.25 with medical approval, and can only say I was much better on the lower dose, no withdrawal symptoms at all. Heart rate came back up from 38ish to around 60, and I started to have a little energy.

I changed from 2.5 to 1.25 quite happily but I took Bisoprolol at night to keep it away from my Levothyroxine. Have since had it changed to Nebivolol by the cardiologist and feel even better.

Hi Hylda, I am new to this forum but find it very informative and supportive. My query is whether there is a reason you split the Bisoprolol and Levothyrixine. I take both these as well as apixaban but pill-pop all of them together after breakfast. Would be grateful for any further info. Many thanks.

I also take these tablets together and would like to know the benefits of taking them separately.

Sorry Liz, have replied to both of you below as you both asked the same question.

Thanks Di, I’ve just seen your reply. I had no idea about taking Levothyroxine on it’s own so will be doing just that from now on. Sticking with Bisoprolol for the time being as on 1.25 dose which seems ok so far. This is such a good place for sharing useful information. Many thanks for your swift response. All the best! Liz

Levothyroxine is at its most effective when taken on its own, one hour before food and other drugs. Like you I took them all together until I joined the thyroid forum on HU and was told what to do. Bisoprolol certainly was a no no for me.

I started at 1.25 and then, once proved tolerant, I was asked to increase the dose to 2.5. As I had some of the 1.25mg still I did this by taking 1.25 twice a day, once in the morning and the other at night. I immediately had problems with low heart rate and dizziness. My GP agreed straight away that I should reduce the dose back to 1.25mg daily, which I did with no problems.

Maybe you could try the twice a day thing, and see if that makes 2.5mg a day work better? It might be worth asking you doctor about that.

I was on 2.5mg Bisophprolol but it slowed my hr down so much and made me feel so lethargic that i felt like i was walking thtough treacle. My gp agreed to cut it down to 1.25mg and I take this in the evenings and have felt a lot less sluggish .

Yes it was on here that I saw about taking it late evening so I spoke to my arrhythmia nurse and she said just try and see how you get on and luckily it works much better for me.This site is a godsend and invaluable to me for advice I am always looking on it for information.
