Is a week long enough to see how beta blockers are working on my af symptoms?

Thanks

Probably not as it will depend on how frequent your AF events have been.

No, it takes a while for the meds to get into the system. Maybe you should speak to your cardiologist or EP if you are still in AF.

I was in persistent AF when I was diagnosed. I tried to survive taking Bisporolol for about 3 months and steadily got more depressed. I think I suffered it too long looking back. I have no medical training but I'd say to give them about a month unless the side-effects are serious.

Bisoprolol is a rate control drug so may have no effect on AF but it will control the HR going to high which is not good long term - but it can also cause heart rate to decrease too much so it’s a good idea to have some monitoring of the heart rate - manual or otherwise.

Also many Bisoprolol users can have unwanted side effects such as breathlessness because it limits the heart rate increasing with exercise. It is very individual so it can help some and for others it has not noticeable improvement in QOL or even makes things feel worse.

Hi Lindyloo Re a week to see if your meds are working. Often starting these new cardiac meds involves some trial and error to find the best dose for each of us. I would say be prepared for this process and don't get discouraged if stabilizing your meds takes a little time.
