Flecaninde what next

Guys I have had increasing episodes of AF starting in November then 1 month later, then new years eve then Saturday then today.

I am on flec 2x 100 every day. Then take 300mg if there is an episode. So I am wondering what next.

Not keen on an ablation, and not sure what next.

Hope all are well

A

Hi Andy. On the medication front, you may be advised to take 150mgs of flecainide on a daily basis or something stronger. 300mgs of flecainide is the maximum daily dose so, if I've understood you, your present action of taking that on top of 200 per day sounds somewhat alarming. How long does your AF last? Is it very debilitating? Have you tried not taking extra medication to see if it self terminates fairly swiftly?

A lot of people are not keen on an ablation. Many who are persuaded to go down that route by lack of alternative are more enthusiastic afterwards than they were initially. What are your reasons for being hesitant?

Hi Rellim2:)

Thanks for the reply.

If you can imagine today I went for an ECG and my heart rate was 76 but in AF.

To answer your questions both EP and cardio agree on the dosage of flec, so for example if I take 100 in the morning I can take another 300 later.

Re seeing if it self terminates, longest I have gone is bout 12 hours before going to hospital so this is something I would like to try, it seems to be trying to switch itself off.

Ablation..due to age 47 , the fact that it does not give a root cause cure, the damage that it might do to the heart(this might be an ignorant statement) and the success rate😍and the fear factor of course.

Thanks:)

I see, looking back, that we had a discussion about 9 months ago when I was Rellim296.

In your place I think I'd be putting a few questions to your EP. If you pay up (I'm assuming you are in the UK) for a private appointment you will possibly have a longer discussion and can talk about how much flecainide you need to control the AF you are getting.

And perhaps an knowledgeable assessment of the ablation risks and advantages for your particular circumstances would be helpful too, together with the prognosis if you choose not to go down that route. Fear of having the procedure should not influence you as most of us find it is not an unpleasant experience, though fear of something going very wrong is another thing.

Thank you you must be getting younger moving from 296 to 2 :).

I did have a private consultation but the EP is very well known and I tried up with 30 questions.

Quite close minded about natural route. And I felt that initial appt cost 220 and follow up 120 I was slightly cheated of time .

Buy all is good and reverted thankfully :)

I would say go for the ablation. I can't imagine living the rest of my life taking flecenaide. That drug has side effects
