Hi guys has anyone taken Verapamil for AF? My dad had a consultants appointment today for a follow up appointment and they’ve admitted him, gave him Verapamil and booked him in for an emergency pacemaker due to being back in AF. His LV is only 10%-15% working and both atriums are enlarged so don’t think that an ablation will work. Thanks. Michelle.

That’s great news Barney I’m glad it works for her. Hopefully my Dad will see the benefits too. Thanks for the well wishes.

Hi, I’ve had one known episode of Paroxsymal AF and have SVT. I’m on

Verapamil SR 240mg daily. Took a while to get used to but keeps me completely symptom free with 100mg flecanide also.

Oh so that’s double that Barney’s wife is on. I’m not sure how much my Dad is on. I’ll check today. Thanks. That’s good that you’re symptom free and they work well for you.

Watch out for side effects....constipation is a common one !

they wont stop an Af attack once its started but useful over a longer period

Post my ablation I now use it as a pill in the pocket. Earlier I did take it daily and a key thing is to keep your feet raised at night (a pillow under the mattress works well) so that you don't get leg swelling.

Thanks Mike I never thought of putting it under the pillow.

Apparently the Verapamil was only temporary to get his HR down so that he can have a pacemaker. He’s getting it fitted today so hope it’s a nite permanent fix (for 6 years anyway!)
