thank you for all your replies. Apologies for the delay, my computer died, and I have been having great fun trying to set up a new laptop. Unfortunately I didn't have access to any 4 year olds who would have done it for me easily!!!!!!

I have now heard from the hospital with a date of 12th Oct for my op. Not long really - not quite the 3 weeks the EP told me thought. My only consolation is that I have not yet paid his bill, and have no intention of doing so until they start makng a fuss.
