Hi everyone hope someone can answer my question? I went into AF last night and it lasted about 4 hours. I am on verapamil 120 dose a day, but took another last night to see if it would help. It did settle down after 2 hours of taking it but not sure if I should have taken extra tablet. Also noticed that my bpm was jumping between 33and 142 is this the norm? Also felt dizzy and when I tried to get to toilet felt I was going to pass out which was quite scary. Sorry for rambling but don't seem to be getting many answers from GP.
Af heart rate. : Hi everyone hope... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Af heart rate.
Sarah, I know how frightening that situation is! Been there several times.. I know all Doctors have their different way of handling their patients. My EP told me if things didn't ease up after an hour he told me to head to the ER ( which I hate doing), but I have done on several occasions. Perhaps you should talk to your GP today and explain your symptoms, and are you seeing a EP cardiologist? I would highly recommend seeing an EP if possible, this is their expertise. Sorry your night was terrible, wishing you a better day today! Just remember you are not alone on this journey ❤️✨
Thanks victoriana still a little breathless today but back to normal. Will speak to GP today and ask to get referred to EP. It's good to know that there is a lot help out there and I think this forum is great as its very helpful and reassuring sometimes. Thanks again I appreciate your help. X
So sorry you went through that. I know how scary that can be. I'm glad you converted on your own. I used to be on Verapamil (and in my opinion) the 2nd dose may have/could have caused the dizziness.
Hi Alfieros, I think you could be right I will certainly take it up with GP. Thanks for getting back to me.
My guess (not medically trained ) is that the extra dose was holding your HR down too far hence the faint feelings due to low heart rate/BP. Best seek medical guidance before unilaterally making those choices. 142 in AF is quite low to be honest so something was working.
Thanks Bob, previously when in afib before diagnosis bpm was at 178 on admission to hospital and wasn't on tablets then and felt exactly the same way but still think what you said about extra dose could be correct, will definitely mention it to doc and push to get referred to an EP. Thanks again for your help.
Heart rate not to be confused with blood pressure though. The two, while connected, differ in that the rate is the frequency of the heartbeat, while the pressure is that exerted by the flow of blood.
