Vagus induced AF?

It was mentioned by someone recently that their AF was triggered by a vagus procedure. I am sure my SVT that degenerates into AF is caused by a gastro or vagus link. I would like to find out what is classified as a vagus procedure and also if anyone has more info on the cardiac/gastric link please

Not sure what you mean by vagus procedure which sounds a confused mix of terms. The vagus nerve is the main neural super highway between brain, stomach, heart and some other organs so what affects one can also affect another. If yo search vagus top right box you will find lots of info.

Thank you. Someone mentioned that AF was triggered by a vagus procedure, I thought it could be something like an anaesthetic?

Hi Sky

I think you might be referring to the fact that some people have what is called a vagal response to say a heavy meal in the evening, or resting after exercise, which can trigger AFib. This certainly used to happen to me before my ablations.

The vagus nerve is part of what is called the parasympathetic nervous system, and it slows the heart and dilates the blood vessels, which is why I suppose you can feel your heart pounding.

That was possibly me. When I had a colonoscopy my BP and heart rate went dramatically down and I went into AF. They initially said it was probably due to dehydration but it was the effect of the procedure on my vagus nerve. But in retrospect it was possibly that the catheter had stimulated my prostate as when I had a DRE (digital rectal examination) a year later I again went into AF.

Im sorry to hear that Seasider. Im sure mine was also triggered by a gastroscopy because before that event I only had a few episodes of SVT
