bisoprolol
I have 1.25mg of bisoprolol to take with my Flecainide, PiP. Is bisoprolol as bad as everyone says? I've yet to take it, hopefully I will never have to!
I had Flec intravenously at the hospital once, and I was fine afterwards.
Not everyone has side effects or their body adjusts after a few weeks but many people find it just has too many side effects. 1.25 is a very low dose so you may be ok. Don't ever take oral Flecainide on a full stomach - won't do anything nasty but you will feel very sickly for a while after.
that's interesting to know. People often report AF starts after having a big meal. Do they then face a decision on whether to pop a Flec, or wait a little while?
If it is straight after a meal then it is often vagal AF - which I find can be prevented or treated without resorting to meds. I find resting for at least 30 mins after a meal, ensuring I don't eat a lot and have a full stomach, staying off starchy foods and staying very well hydrated helps to avoid vagal AF triggered by eating which usually starts with tachycardia - staying in 'rest to digest' mode avoids the tachycardia - which goes into AF. If for some reason I do go into AF I then use vasovagal manoeuvres which usually converts me to NSR.
Otherwise - wait for an hour after a meal before taking Flec. I only took Flec once on a full stomach - you won't make that mistake twice!
Hi, propranolol is a non selective beta blocker - blocking beta 1 receptors in the heart but also the beta 2 receptors in the lungs and elsewhere in the body. So propranolol has a large side effect profile and is contra indicated in people with asthma. It is also prescribed for anxiety. Bisoprolol on the other hand is a highly selective beta 1 blocker. As such it tends to have a lower side effect profile and is effective for slowing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure and helping in angina. I appreciate in any population you get some people who don't get on with certain medications, and you know your own body. I use bisoprolol and have no issues with it except it isn't a magic wand ! Good luck and I hope you find the right medication for you.
