Just gone into AF for first time in 13 months and I'm in Spain!! My flecainide is 12 months out of date. Had an ablation last June. ( A ) does this mean the ablation hasn't worked? ( B ) will the flec work? And ( C ) what are the thoughts on flying in fast af uncoagulated?? I'm a 37yom
Worse time??: Just gone into AF for... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Worse time??
Oh dear! Can you see a medic in Spain? I'm assuming you have medical insurance. What rate are you in ?
Sandra
A if you mean June 2017 it is too early to say failed. B probably, C I presume. that you mean un -anticoagulated. Unless you already needed anticoagulation for another issue your risk factors (CHADSVASC) at your age are low. I have flown many time in AF but we are all different. Stay well hydrated at all time and no alcohol.
I've flown when in AF started after a cardioversion whilst in hol in Greece. I was on anticoagulants at the time
I am in AF all the time and fly. Stay hydrated xxx
The first time I noticed My AF I was in Portugal on holiday, I didn't know what it was as the time. I woke I the middle of the night after an evening of overindulgence and my heart was dancing away!
I'm the same age as you and also had my ablation last June! I've had a few runs of AF since that have stopped after a few hours. Actually today I'm having loads of ectopic runs and that is normally a precursor to an episode of AF. But on a whole mine is better than before I had the ablation.
My EP wants me to wait another 6 months to see if it settles down a little before they do another PVI ablation. He said an ablation probably won't cure the AF, only reduced the frequency and length of the episodes.
I also don't take any anticoagulants due to my age and lack of other conditions.
Anyway I hope your AF stops soon, try to stay relaxed and enjoy the sun!

Hi JJC999
I had the same thing happen to me in June in Tenerife second day there, it's not a nice feeling at the best of times it lasted 10 hours pip worked, even though your flec is out of date give it a go, there will be one of two options it will work or it won't , if it does you can enjoy your last night there, if it doesn't and your not in any pain and you don't need hospital as you say ride it out. On the warfarin side ask around loads of people take it borrow some if you can remember your dose or get some aspirin it will tide you over.
My case went missing one year with medication in, talking around the pool out of fifteen people I ended up with three out of five tabs I take and case turned up next day.
Hope it helps.
Always take pills in my hand luggage
Thanks people, I've been on and off this site/app for past 18 months and tbh it's the first thing I do when it hits the fan! The advice, reassurance and support I've received are always really appreciated. Cheers jimmy
I'd take the flecinade of it had been keep cool and dry. Hope it all works out for you. X
Morning peeps, went back into nsr at about 11pm Tuesday night after another 100mg flec. Prob about 28-30hrs in af. Lesson learnt for me that although ablation prob worked I'm by no means immune to the affects of putting stresses on my body, bottom line need to look after the engine!!
You may be able to buy these over the counter in Spain, alternatively have you got the reciprocal form that we are supposed to take abroad for treatment, if so then go to the local doctor or hospital with your form and they can prescribe.
I forgot to take my beta blockers on holiday once in Cypress an was able to by some from a chemist there.
You say its only AF but is it worth risking a stroke, i see people have said that they fly all the time in AF but are they flying Uncoagulated. My advice would be to check first.
I did find this online am sure you know this anyway good luck and hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday. xxxx
Flying with Atrial Fibrillation
Travel can be stressful and tiring, leave yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. If part of your travel includes flying, there are AFib triggers to be aware of; here are some tips to follow:
Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and limit caffeine and alcohol.
If you have a pacemaker, you should avoid the metal detectors at security checkpoints at the airport. Tell the security personnel, and they will pat you down instead.
You should take frequent rest breaks to get up and move around. Doing so will reduce the risk of a blood clot forming from sitting for a long period of time. Support hose can help improve blood flow and prevent swelling or possible blood clots that could form in your legs.
If you’ll be sitting for long periods, consider wearing support stockings to help improve blood flow and prevent blood clots and swelling of the legs.
The chemist in Spain handed over Amlodipine without prescription when I couldn't find mine - think it was about a euro for 56.
